Paul Pierce becomes 18th player in NBA history to score 25,000 career points (VIDEO)

Apr 11, 2014, 9:47 PM EDT

Paul Pierce became the 18th player in NBA history to score at least 25,000 career points after draining this three-pointer with 3:10 remaining in the first half of Friday’s contest against the Hawks.

The only other active players to accomplish the feat (and who are ahead of Pierce on the list of all-time scoring leaders) are Kevin Garnett, Dirk Nowitzki and Kobe Bryant.

Next up on the all-time list is Jerry West, who Pierce will pass sometime next season after logging in the neighborhood of an additional 190 points.

You said. He’s been a thorn in the side of my Heat, but I have nothing but respect for the way Pierce competes.

If there was a “final supper” style painting of the past 15 years of basketball, he would be in it.

Him and LeBron have been going at it for years now – it’s like Pierce took it as his personal mission to be LeBron’s only real rival. And no matter how old or slow Pierce gets, he always seems to get his. I have nothing but respect for him – and to think he came back after that brutal attack to have a great career in spite of it!

Being a Laker fan, but knowing where his from makes this pretty cool. Congrats to Paul Pierce.

Wish he could have done it in a Celtics uniform but glad he has a shot at another title. Guy is a warrior.
