    Jun 30, 2014, 11:28 PM EDT

Sacramento Kings v Golden State Warriors

Restricted free agent Isaiah Thomas is drawing interest around the NBA.

  2. Pau Gasol sees specialist regarding respiratory infection, likely out Friday

    Dec 26, 2013, 5:56 PM EDT

    SPO-BKN-NBA-LAKERS-HEAT

Since early in the season, Pau Gasol has been battling a respiratory infection, it has caused him to miss some games and slowed him when he’s been on the court. He can’t shake it. Thursday he saw a new specialist to look at the issue. The short term impact is the Lakers will be without…

  3. Lakers try to name all Santa’s reindeer, end up on naughty list (VIDEO)

    Dec 16, 2013, 2:49 PM EDT

    Santas

Nick Young and Mike D’Antoni have just moved onto somebody’s naughty list. A reporter from ABC 7 in Los Angeles decided to ask a few Lakers to name all of Santa’s nine reindeer and only Jordan Farmar came anywhere close. We’ll cut Pau Gasol some slack as in Spain Santa does come but the Three…

  4. Maloofs send ex-FBI agent to snoop on local Sacramento businesses

    May 14, 2012, 10:21 AM EDT

    worried george

During last year’s playoffs, the Maloof family sent an attorney to an Orange County Register reporter’s home to collect evidence. The evidence in question was audio of Phil Jackson comparing the embattled family to unpopular former Dodgers owner Frank McCourt. While the Maloofs may have wanted observers to believe they were merely protecting their image,…

  5. Kobe Bryant suffers nasal fracture, concussion, will see specialist

    Feb 27, 2012, 2:10 AM EDT

    2012 NBA All-Star Game

(Update: Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports also reported Bryant suffered a mild concussion as well as the broken nose. Two-for-one. Ouch.)   The Lakers announced Sunday night that Kobe Bryant suffered a nasal fracture in the third quarter of the 2012 NBA All-Star Game after a hard foul from Dwyane Wade. Bryant held his nose…

  6. Kobe Bryant doesn’t think the Clippers are a rival, but was proud of Lakers’ performance

    Jan 26, 2012, 6:51 PM EDT

Los Angeles Clippers v Los Angeles Lakers

Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers picked up a 96-91 victory over their Staples Center roommates on Wednesday night, but don’t get it twisted: Kobe Bryant and Co. certainly don’t view a victory over the Clippers as a big win in a rivalry game. “Please,” Bryant said when asked about what the rivalry victory…

  7. Lakers remind fans why maybe they shouldn’t worry so much

    Feb 23, 2011, 3:15 AM EDT

Atlanta Hawks v Los Angeles Lakers

Those looked like the Lakers everyone expects to see. The Lakers who showed up at Staples Center Tuesday night were up double-digits in the first quarter on a pretty good Hawks team. Those Lakers cruised to a 104-80 win. Those Lakers looked nothing like the ones that dropped three straight games at the end of…

  8. Kevin Garnett won’t be suspended for hitting Channing Frye in the junk, because that makes sense

    Jan 29, 2011, 5:42 PM EDT

    Utah Jazz v Boston Celtics

Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports reports that Kevin Garnett will not be suspended for tapping Channing Frye in the groin area Friday night. I’m sorry, what? Look, I get that Channing Frye probably sold this thing a little, and then popped up awful quick. And I understand that Garnett is a major star in a…

  9. Are the Lakers too old to play defense? Not if they slow you down.

    Jan 24, 2011, 10:01 AM EDT

Los Angeles Lakers v San Antonio Spurs

When Jerry West spoke to some Orange County car dealers last week, he said that part of the problem with the Lakers defense was that they were too old. “The reason you can’t play defense is because you can’t,” he said. Phil Jackson agreed — with qualifiers — with that when speaking to the media…

  10. Lakers’ Jeanie Buss will not rule out contraction

    Jan 20, 2011, 8:15 PM EDT

    Jeanie Buss

Contraction talk has become the cockroach of the Collective Bargaining Agreement talks — it will not die. No matter what. This time it was Lakers Vice President Jeanie Buss. Yes, she also shacks up with some guy named Phil Jackson, but make no mistake she runs the business end of the Lakers and is the…

  11. Does Phil Jackson return if he doesn’t snare the 12th ring?

    Jan 1, 2011, 5:00 PM EDT

Los Angeles Lakers v Sacramento Kings

To begin our discussion, this quote from the Los Angeles Times: Still, Jackson was asked again if he could see himself taking some time off and coming back to coach. “No,” Jackson responded quickly. Why not? he was asked. “I think I’ve put in my service time,” Jackson, 65, said. “I think I’ve done my…

  12. ESPN suspends anchor for plagiarizing Lakers beat writer

    Dec 30, 2010, 9:19 AM EDT

    plagiari

Imagine the surprise: Lakers beat writer Kevin Ding of the Orange County Register files his stories from the Lakers loss to the San Antonio Spurs Tuesday and heads back to his hotel room, flips on ESPN News — and hears his lead from a Dec. 26 game preview being used by anchor Will Selva to…

  13. What did we learn about the Heat? Lakers?

    Dec 26, 2010, 4:02 AM EDT

Miami Heat v Los Angeles Lakers

On Christmas 2009, LeBron James’ Cleveland Cavaliers thumped the Los Angeles Lakers pretty good, winning by 15. Come June, that game was meaningless. That 2009 game looked a lot like the 2010 Lakers/Heat game. Which is to say, the Heat’s 16-point win has no real predictive value. If these two teams do meet again in…

  14. Andrew Bynum: “I’m definitely playing tomorrow”

    Dec 13, 2010, 3:53 PM EDT

Phoenix Suns v Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers had a full practice today in Washington D.C. before heading off to meet President Barack Obama, and it sounds like Andrew Bynum had the one full hard practice he wanted before he steps back out on the court (via the LA Times Mike Bresnahan’s twitter account). “I’m definitely playing tomorrow” The Lakers take…

  15. NBA Power Rankings, where the top still looks like last year’s finals

    Nov 1, 2010, 2:31 PM EDT

    Bryant_Gasol_high5

Our weekly NBA Power Rankings, where nothing confuses us more than the Suns playing at the 20th fastest pace in the league. 1. Lakers (3-0). Lamar Odom and Pau Gasol have been the best front line in basketball through the first week. Kobe’s knee isn’t right, but it hasn’t mattered yet. Oh, and we told…

  16. Winderman: Contraction not a bad idea, just bad negotiations

    Oct 28, 2010, 7:43 PM EDT

Houston Rockets v Los Angeles Lakers

Contraction as collective-bargaining threat is lamentable on so many levels. In does little to advance the process, offers a solution to nothing. But contraction as a means toward competitive renewal? It is an option that should not be summarily dismissed, albeit one better debated at a time other than amid the expiration of a CBA.…

  17. Lakers ring ceremony

    Oct 27, 2010, 8:25 AM EDT

Ring ceremonies are usually tedious affairs. Any event where everyone has to shake the commissioner’s hand is rarely exciting to watch. But the Lakers put a nice twist on their’s Tuesday, having the players introduce one another. It felt genuine. Take a look for yourself.

  18. NBA Power Rankings, where the preseason games don’t matter. Sort of.

    Oct 25, 2010, 11:28 AM EDT

    Lakers_lineup

Here are our rankings to start off the season. Preseason games do not matter, which is why the Lakers are still on top of this poll. Then again, we bounced the Magic up to No. 2 because of their undefeated preseason. So we’re not consistent. We’re clearly not in midseason form yet. 1. Lakers. Former…

  19. Vujacic suffers concussion, out indefinitely

    Oct 14, 2010, 7:49 PM EDT

    Image (1) Vujacic_Dragic-thumb-250x218-12598.jpg for post 2241

According to Mike Trudell of the Lakers Basketblog, Los Angeles Lakers guard Sasha Vujacic suffered a concussion when Lamar Odom inadvertently elbowed him in the face during Thursday’s practice. Vujacic will be re-evaluated on Friday. In three preseason games, Vujacic averaged 3.7 points per game on 26.7% shooting from the field.

  20. Five years in, we still don't have a lock on Andrew Bynum

    Sep 25, 2010, 12:00 PM EDT

We need divisive figures in the NBA. There are so many players that simply are what they are. Lou Amundson, for example. Tim Duncan. Andrei Kirilenko. It’s those other players that make debates fun, and Andrew Bynum is certainly one of them. We’re entering our sixth season of Bynumite, and we still have little way…

  21. Kobe's not going anywhere, ever.

    Aug 28, 2010, 10:00 AM EDT

Alongside his tasty little Voltron quote about the Heat, Kobe Bryant dropped another nugget soundbyte yesterday that bears repeating, if only as an admission of what we already know. As a guest of teammate Derek Fisher on Jim Rome is Burning, Bryant said that he was “99.9 sure” he is retiring as a Laker (via…

  22. Ron Artest interviews Ron Artest

    Jul 28, 2010, 4:04 PM EDT

One summer double scoop of Ron Artest coming right up. Bless the people at ESPN, who not only came up with the idea of Ron Artest interviewing Ron Artest, but had the technology to put it together. (Thanks to Trey Kerby at Ball Don’t Lie for finidng this.) Because you can never get too much …

  23. Shannon Brown close to deal to return to Lakers

    Jul 15, 2010, 10:13 AM EDT

Kobe Bryant wanted Raja Bell. Instead, Lakers fans look like they are going to get their dunks back. With Bell clotheslining Kobe one more time and heading to Utah, the Lakers are moving closer to a deal to bring Shannon Brown back into the fold, according to Yahoo Sports. Lakers general manager “Mitch [Kupchak] and…

  24. Nobody is sure what Phil Jackson is going to do, not even his family

    Jun 22, 2010, 9:36 PM EDT

Here’s the best part — we’re all going to know what Phil Jackson wants to do by the end of the week. Come back to the Lakers or stay on his ranch in Montana. But nobody knows what he is going to do. Apparently not even his family, although they think he may be done,…

  25. NBA finals Video: Kobe has one more than Shaq, and would like to tell you so

    Jun 18, 2010, 12:20 PM EDT

There’s a surreality to the tone of championship teams. Even after five titles, Kobe still appears stunned that he’s reached the summit again. Phil Jackson, with 11 rings (one for the pinky toe?) still seems like the entire experience is odd. Oddly in the video below, it’s only Pau Gasol who seems nonplussed. And of…
