LeBron James appeared at a charity dinner in Sacramento on Friday, as a guest of the city’s mayor and former NBA player Kevin Johnson. Iman Shumpert cleared, could make season debut in London against the Pistons
Jan 12, 2013, 5:30 PM EDT
The Knicks have struggled a bit as of late, and have had seemingly nothing but bad news on the injury front. Mike Woodson changed all that after the team practiced on Saturday when he told reporters that Iman Shumpert has been cleared by doctors, and could make his season debut later this week. From Jared…

These are some pretty tasty Damian Lillard highlights from the Blazers loss on Friday night at the hands of the Warriors. Lillard essentially goes bonkers from distance, pulling up from long range time and time again and draining three-pointers as if they were 15-foot jumpers. He went 7-of-12 from behind the arc, and was 15-of-25…

If you were looking for a reason to tune in for an afternoon contest between the Clippers and the Magic, Grant Hill making his season debut for Los Angeles is as good a reason as any. Hill was said to be a game time decision after practice on Friday, but Vinnie Del Negro told reporters…

Amid Rudy Gay trade speculation, Lionel Hollins says he’d like to keep Grizzlies together
Jan 12, 2013, 2:00 PM EDT
The trade talk surrounding Rudy Gay has begun to heat up recently, and for a variety of reasons, it isn’t likely to stop until mid-February’s trade deadline has come and gone. The Grizzlies struggled through a brief 2-4 stretch, but have recovered nicely to win four straight, including Friday night’s overtime home thriller against the…

Steve Novak calls Nate Robinson ‘Little Nathan’ after Robinson mocks his three-point celebration
Jan 12, 2013, 12:30 PM EDT
Steve Novak has adopted the “discount double check” as his go-to celebration for hitting big three-pointers. It’s the same one Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has made famous on the football field, and then even more so after appearing in a series of insurance commercials. The celebration is weak by NBA standards, but hey,…

Gerald Wallace goes down hard, leaves game with injury (VIDEO)
Jan 12, 2013, 11:00 AM EDT
Gerald Wallace has earned the nickname “Crash” over the years for a reason. He consistently and fearlessly takes flight around the rim, with little or no regard for his own personal safety. Early in Friday night’s win over the Suns, Wallace went up for a basket, but was fouled by P.J. Tucker in mid-air, and…

The Knicks have shown that they’ve had no trouble dealing with the Miami Heat this season, the defending champions who sit at the top of the Eastern Conference standings. As for defense-first teams like the Bulls and the Celtics however, that’s where New York tends to struggle. Playing Chicago for the third time this season…

Report: Kings buyer who would keep team in Sacramento has made formal offer to Maloofs
Jan 11, 2013, 6:04 PM EDT
As we told you earlier, the sale of the Kings won’t be a done deal until it is actually a done deal — contracts signed, press conferences convened, a river of tears flowing through the streets of Sacramento, etc. Shortly after the initial report of the deal being done came out, our own Aaron Bruski…

PBT Podcast: Talking Kings relocation, Pacers, Knicks, Heat, and Lakers
Jan 11, 2013, 4:51 PM EDT
In this edition of the podcast, Kurt Helin and I sit down to discuss the seemingly impending sale of the Sacramento Kings to a Seattle-based ownership group, and why the fans there want to fight to keep a team that’s been historically terrible in terms of wins and losses. We then look back at Thursday…

Wesley Matthews hits two huge threes late to help Blazers beat Heat (VIDEO)
Jan 11, 2013, 2:29 AM EDT
The Heat looked as though they would have little trouble with the Blazers, getting out to a solid start and a 52-39 lead at the end of the first half. But a 38-point second half doomed Miami’s chances, and the team found itself blowing a 12-point fourth quarter lead while on the wrong end of…

There’s no question that the Indiana Pacers, much like any team in the NBA, couldn’t care less exactly how their wins are acquired. Whether they come due to a stifling defensive effort that allows the offense to barely get by is of no consequence; all that matters is that ultimate result. Indiana took down the…
-
It’s been a brutal first half in Indiana for both teams offensively, but J.R. Smith provided a momentary reprieve from the darkness with this thunderous slam dunk over Ian Mahinmi of the Pacers. Smith explodes to the rim from beyond the three-point arc, and seems to have the rim in his sights from the moment…

Jim Buss says Lakers are ‘not going to panic’ despite dismal start
Jan 10, 2013, 9:11 PM EDT
Panic is a severe word to use where sports franchises are concerned, given the millions of dollars invested in players and coaches and the long-term vision it takes to put together a team capable of competing for a championship. On paper, the Lakers should have the talent to be in that championship conversation. But injuries…

John Wall is very close to returning to the court for the Wizards, and when he does finally make it back, he’ll do so with adidas on his feet. Wall and adidas announced a long-term partnership agreement on Thursday, which marked the end of Wall’s deal to represent Reebok. From the official release: “I’ve enjoyed…

Report: Carmelo Anthony had to be restrained outside Celtics locker room after Knicks loss
Jan 8, 2013, 12:01 AM EDT
Things got heated between Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Garnett during the Knicks’ home loss to the Celtics on Monday, and apparently, Anthony wanted to continue the battle after the game was finished. The two players received double technicals for their continued jawing with just over nine minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, but they were…

Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Garnett go at it, receive double technicals (VIDEO)
Jan 7, 2013, 11:28 PM EDT
The Celtics didn’t need Rajon Rondo to beat the Knicks at MSG on Thursday; they only needed to get inside Carmelo Anthony‘s head. Kevin Garnett did so masterfully, and Anthony shot a miserable 6-of-26 from the field which helped the Celtics come away with a critical road victory against one of the top teams in…

Bradley Beal hits the game-winner to send Wizards past Thunder (VIDEO)
Jan 7, 2013, 10:43 PM EDT
The Wizards are just 5-28 on the season, but two of those five wins have come against the teams who met in the NBA Finals last June. Washington already beat the Heat earlier this season, and thanks to Bradley Beal‘s heroics with less than a second remaining on Monday, the Wizards were able to come…

Tommy Heinsohn with the epic rant on Rondo’s suspension (VIDEO)
Jan 7, 2013, 8:31 PM EDT
Tommy Heinsohn is the color analyst on the Celtics broadcasts, but before that he was a Hall of Fame player and coach in Boston for parts of the last six decades. As you might imagine, he bleeds green at this point, and has almost no filter when discussing issues related to his beloved Celtics. The…

There was a buzz surrounding Omri Casspi when he came into the league with the Sacramento Kings back in 2009, and not only because he was the NBA’s first Israeli-born player. Casspi showed signs of being more than a serviceable rotation player early in his career, but his numbers have regressed in each of the…

PHOENIX — The Suns dropped their second straight home game on Sunday, falling to a Memphis Grizzlies team it had matched up well against in two earlier meetings this season. The loss itself, the team’s eighth in its last nine games, is the least of the problems in Phoenix. Offensively, the Suns have regressed completely…
