Derrick Rose with explosive crossover, two handed jam on Finland (VIDEO)

Aug 30, 2014, 11:01 PM EST

Sure, Finland plays about as much defense as you see in my Monday night pick-up games, that was still an impressive move by Derrick Rose.

Rose looked like his vintage self against Finland in the USA’s World Cup opening win, finishing with 12 points. Rose was explosive and looked the best we have seen since the USA’s tune-up game in Chicago against Brazil.

The real question with Rose is how he feels the next day. (A question that will be asked again and again all season.) We’ll see how much he plays and how he looks against Turkey on Sunday, but on Saturday Rose looked good again.

Negative Rose comments in 3…2…1… oh wait. They wont comment at all. They’ll just wait until he either has a bad game or rests, then they’ll come out and comment. Cause you know they can’t (or more likely, wont) say he played well.

On another note… Kuuuurt, yall don’t play any defense in your pick up games? Come on man. Thibs would be disappointed.

    • rrhoe - Aug 31, 2014 at 1:17 AM

Finland, you getting excited over Finland, one good showing after a week of rest,if that’s how the Bulls season goes then more power to you.

      • chicitybulls - Aug 31, 2014 at 1:26 AM

I knew it was coming. And nowhere in my comment does it say that I’m excited. I simply said the negative comments were coming so thank you for proving my point. Besides, regardless of who he does it against, you strike me as the type of person who will never give him any credit.

      • rrhoe - Aug 31, 2014 at 1:47 AM

I actually like Rose believe it or not and the only reason I give him the benefit of the doubt is due to his age. Aside from that not a Bulls fan but the team has went all-in with regard to the season hinges on a player that hasn’t been able to stay healthy. They have no viable replacement if he struggles or needs extended time to rest during the season so they will still struggle to score.

      • chicitybulls - Aug 31, 2014 at 12:54 PM

You like Rose? Wow. I hate to see you talk about a person you don’t like. And the Bulls have made moves to get more offense. They’ll get it from ball movement and not necessarily 2 guys that can “get their own shot”. They don’t need it. They just need 1 guy to break down the defense to get the defense moving so they can move the ball to an open man and get a good shot. THAT’s what basketball is all about. Worked for the Spurs didn’t it.

      • ecnuob51 - Aug 31, 2014 at 2:01 PM

Ummmm the bulls are not the spurs. And yes they need multiple guys because if rose has an off night or it’s a bad matchup someone else has to be able to take over.

      • chicitybulls - Aug 31, 2014 at 3:23 PM

They don’t have to BE the Spurs to move the ball. I guess we’ll just agree to disagree about having to HAVE a second guy who can create his own shot. I think with Dunleavy, McDermott, Mirotic and Heinrich (as well as occasionally Butler), they can space the floor with shooters as well as having (finally) a guy they can throw it in to the post to score in Gasol.

    • nflcrimerankingscom - Aug 31, 2014 at 12:02 PM

Look at how insecure you are!

Just as secure as Rose’s knee ligaments…

  2. montrealknowledge - Aug 30, 2014 at 11:47 PM

Crossing over on Finland is not impressive at all… So I am sure there can be some negative comments. I did not see the game, but am happy Rose is finishing at the rim with nobody around. I hope he realizes the difference when NBA bigs are in the key and takes less contact. Bulls in finals this year!!!

    • lazegowizfan95 - Aug 31, 2014 at 12:19 AM

Sorry but Bulls aint going to the finals bro wishful thinking bro.

    • dj3garrett - Aug 31, 2014 at 1:59 AM

I don’t think the Bulls will make it that far… They still lack a second player who can create and score… During the playoffs when the opposing team is focused on Rose, who do they go to? I think their team is pretty close to the team back in 2011… A great defensive but struggles to score without Rose…

  3. chicagosports2014 - Aug 31, 2014 at 12:30 AM

    👍

  4. campcouch - Aug 31, 2014 at 12:59 AM

One minute he’s washed up, the next he’s looking good, then he’s struggling, now he’s vintage. Let’s wait until the midway point of the NBA season before declaring anything about Rose’s status.

    • rrhoe - Aug 31, 2014 at 1:13 AM

      Exactly!!!!!

      • chicitybulls - Aug 31, 2014 at 1:28 AM

What do you mean “exactly”? You constantly say he’s done so you are declaring something about him. I’m all for waiting and seeing. Seems like you, and people of your ilk, don’t want to wait though. Yall are ready to make your declarations now.

      • rrhoe - Aug 31, 2014 at 1:49 AM

I have never said he was done, not yet anyway…….

      • money2long - Aug 31, 2014 at 1:52 AM

        Settle down Derrick rrhoe

    • davidly - Aug 31, 2014 at 4:56 AM

If “let’s wait until…” is the order of the day, why don’t you follow your own advice and get off of campcouch and away from the web of tantalising virtual commentary?

I’ll tell you why: any one of us can declare whatever we want about anyone else’s status. He looks good physically.

That is all. You may now go comment on other posts;-)

  5. dj3garrett - Aug 31, 2014 at 1:49 AM

Haha instead of “why so serious”, why so sensitive? Some of you Bulls fans sound a little sad and mad at the fact that other fans are criticizing Rose… If you guys can say the Bulls are the deepest team and will be in the Finals, why can’t others say Rose isn’t the same after two knee injuries. .. It’s just opinions.

    • rrhoe - Aug 31, 2014 at 2:01 AM

They are quite the sensitive bunch aren’t they……..

      • sportsfan18 - Aug 31, 2014 at 10:21 AM

        Not me.

Born and raised outside the city, worked in the city, went to my first Bulls game in the 1977/78 season and loved watching Artis “The A Train Gilmore” play center for the Bulls.

Love Da Cubs and Da Bears too.

Homers are boring as all they say is their team and player is the best all the time, blah, blah, blah.

I want D Rose to be healthy and play well. Even as a huge Bulls fan, D Rose did not deserve the MVP award a few seasons back. I’m glad he got it, but he didn’t have the best season that year. Now, he was one of the top few in the league that year, just not the very best.

NONE of us know how D Rose will do. Many on here say “trust me, he’s done”. Well they think that, they feel that, they may even want that, but they do NOT know that.

I don’t know that he’ll make it back. He might and I want him too. The Bulls need him playing well to go far (see last yrs first round playoff exit as an example).

Homers are like children… not fully developed yet in their thoughts and reasoning abilities.

Try living in reality sometimes folks…

      • cruzan80 - Aug 31, 2014 at 12:10 PM

        @ sportfan

        HAHAHAHAHAHA!

I can’t wait to throw everything you just said in your face when you post for the billionth time one of your essays about why “Melo will NEVER win a championship” or constantly place the Bulls as the 2nd seed behind the Cavs & put the Knicks 10th or 11th.

You’re arguably the biggest homer/hater/troll on this site. You’re 100% correct when you say “they do NOT know”.

Try taking some of your own advice there buddy.

        Oh…& dj3garrett is right…ya’ll are mighty sensitive. ;-)

      • cruzan80 - Aug 31, 2014 at 12:18 PM

“Homers are like children… not fully developed yet in their thoughts and reasoning abilities.”

        I couldn’t agree more.

Is there anything more homer like than a Chicago fan that HATES everything New York???

      • sportsfan18 - Aug 31, 2014 at 1:35 PM

        Cruz,

I like the New Jersey Giants (out of the East teams as I can’t stand the Cowboys, Redskins and the Eagles.

Why can’t the pro football teams in NYC actually put their stadium within the state at least? I mean it’s not even within the state of New York?

So, there. Something I like about New York (well, Jersey, but close enough for horseshoes).

I like Ellis Island too, I had family go through there long ago. Been there and to the Statue of Liberty.

Your pizza isn’t good though… gotta go with Uno’s deep dish and some beer over that pizza in New York. That stuff is like tofu from Cali, it’s fake pizza as it’s like putting sauce and pepperoni on a piece of paper and eating it.

The ocean is cool and the boardwalk… oh, that’s right, that’s in Jersey too.

Maybe there isn’t much in NYC I like after all…

Nah, if ya’ll moved to Greenland or someplace, I’d like NYC fine… at least during the two weeks of summer ya’ll get…

        2nd city my azz

P.S. Cruz, if I didn’t respond this way, you’d be upset and you know it.

I love all of America truth be told. Best. Place. On. Earth.

      • philtration - Aug 31, 2014 at 8:48 PM

No one in Chicago gives a damn about New York.
They never have so get over yourself.

    • chicitybulls - Aug 31, 2014 at 1:04 PM

Speaking for myself and myself only, I’m not sad or mad. I’m just curious where all the negativity comes from. I’ve asked this many times and never get an answer. It’s not like the guy is a jerk off or on the court. Personally, if you’re a fan of basketball you want to see great players play great and root for that. I know I do. If that great player is on the other team I just want my team to play better than that other team. A great player can play great and still lose. I know I’ll never get an answer which is why I stopped asking the question. Some people watch too much skip bayless/Stephen a smith and listen to too much sports talk radio and feel like they have to form their opinions like those people….baseless. But yeah, I agree, it is just an opinion. And you know what they say about opinions….

      • cruzan80 - Aug 31, 2014 at 8:53 PM

        @chicitybulls

Now THIS is a comment I can respect.

Real SPORT FANS think exactly the way you do.

        Well said sir.

  6. sumkat - Aug 31, 2014 at 10:21 AM

I mean, good to see the guy healthy, and the knee holding up….but “explosive cross over”?

I have no issue with Rose, always liked him, hope he comes back 100%. I do have issue with declining a decent cross over as “explosive”

    • boltsup - Sep 1, 2014 at 4:06 AM

I was happy he finally through down a jam… I was worried about him

  7. jimeejohnson - Aug 31, 2014 at 11:40 AM

It was a sick move by a sick man. and none of you guys could even touch the rim let alone throw down a slam.

  8. laughablematters - Aug 31, 2014 at 4:58 PM

yeah ok so he crossed over Finland . big whoop . most of the weekend warriors on these boards could cross over Finland . rose’s best days as behind him sorry

    • Kurt Helin - Sep 1, 2014 at 10:58 AM

This is what I meant by saying what you think of D-Rose’s play so far really says more about what you think of his return chances. We haven’t seen enough to make any sweeping judgements and will not for a while.
