Michael Beasley gets second Lakers workout

Aug 27, 2014, 5:00 PM EST

Los Angeles Lakers v Miami Heat Getty Images

Michael Beasley remains unsigned, and his former team, the Heat, are happy to explain why.

But there’s still some interest in the talented forward.

The Lakers worked him out, and they were clearly intrigued. Not intrigued enough to sign him, but intrigued enough to proceed with Beasley.

Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders:

The Lakers can offer just a minimum contract – not that Beasley could command more, anyway.

The No. 2 pick just six years ago, Beasley would give the Lakers another player with name recognition. He’d also give the Lakers another player who isn’t that good. For a franchise going nowhere anytime soon, Beasley is a perfect fit.

For Beasley, the Lakers might offer an NBA salary, and that beats not an NBA salary.

It’s a match made in heaven.

Plenty of Weed in California for him. Good addition.

    • duhwighthoward - Aug 27, 2014 at 7:30 PM

The most memorable moment of his career was when Andrew Bynum gave him a flying elbow.

    • themars211 - Aug 27, 2014 at 7:31 PM

Man and the trees in California are good.

  2. kobeoverlebron - Aug 27, 2014 at 5:05 PM

franchise going no where soon??? what?? come on they will be in the playoffs this year amd the next several years clippers will have injuries so will the mavs lakers take 8 seed

    • 88heatnation - Aug 27, 2014 at 5:12 PM

What percentage will Kobe shoot for the season?

      • kobeoverlebron - Aug 27, 2014 at 5:19 PM

        48% @88heatnation

      • 00maltliquor - Aug 27, 2014 at 5:29 PM

I can’t call it but you can be sure it will be a higher % then D Wade, I can tell you that much.

      • sportsfan18 - Aug 27, 2014 at 7:28 PM

        @ kobe under lebron

Kobe has NEVER and I repeat NEVER even shot 47.0% in a season in the NBA…

And now, after ALL the miles, with his age and coming off of injuries, you’re predicting a CAREER high shooting percentage for him?

How about a 47.0% then as he’s never done that?

        I think he’ll shoot around 45%.

      • moneyz2 - Aug 28, 2014 at 3:55 PM

Lebron shot 36% from outside the paint last year, and I don’t see anyone complaining.. ( his shooting % is skew for all the cherry picking he does..75 % under the rim).
He was shooting 18 % from outside the paint in the finals (until last year). I did not hear a peep..

  3. fishkzor - Aug 27, 2014 at 5:10 PM

Amazing how fast the Laker’s empire has crumbled.

As a Celtics fan, it’s extremely gratifying.

    • money2long - Aug 27, 2014 at 6:18 PM

Isn’t this a comment you make when your team is dominating?
      Wait. They’re not.

      • sportsfan18 - Aug 27, 2014 at 7:34 PM

        money,

Well if BOTH the Celtics and the Lakers were dominating then he couldn’t make that statement.

The ONLY way to make this statement is for the Lakers to be crumbling, regardless of whether the Celtics are dominating or cellar dwellers.

It’s only factually true when the Lakers are crumbling.

How another team is doing has no bearing on whether the Lakers are crumbling or not.

So WHY would he have to say that when his team was dominating? What bearing does his team have on the Lakers crumbling?

    • moneyz2 - Aug 28, 2014 at 3:59 PM

You’re talking about the Celtics?? 1 (one) championship in the last 28 years…Celtics…
      your funny ..

  4. ProBasketballPundit - Aug 27, 2014 at 5:16 PM

Lakers won’t be contenders so they might as well be fun. With Jeremy Lin, Kobe, Boozer, and Beasley they would have no defense but a ton of offense. Maybe even Nash will be able to play a little. Not a Lakers fan but I’d watch that team.

    • sportsfan18 - Aug 27, 2014 at 7:49 PM

      Pro,

Kobe won’t be having any fun…

Dude is gonna be GRUMPY all season with the losing…

Kobe is NOT going to like losing and he won’t have fun…

Come to think of it, you’re right, I AM going to have fun watching that though…

      • smoothaswilkes - Aug 27, 2014 at 10:53 PM

Kobe has 24 million reasons not to be grumpy next season. And another 24 million the following season.

  5. asimonetti88 - Aug 27, 2014 at 5:20 PM

I mean, I guess there are worse players we could sign. Like Joe Alexander or Yi Jianlian.

    • spursareold - Aug 27, 2014 at 6:13 PM

Unsurprisingly, they were both drafted by the Bucks.

  6. 00maltliquor - Aug 27, 2014 at 5:33 PM

    **facepalm** smh

Okay, so we’re just gonna pretend like the game of basketball is only offense.
What defense right? Defense is only for football. Fml

  7. 00maltliquor - Aug 27, 2014 at 5:42 PM

Andddd at what point are we gonna address the defensive side of the ball?

That was by far our biggest weakness last year and with much of the same cast from last year along with the fact the players we added fit the same mold, are we supposed to pretend like defense is only for football, like the NBA is only played on one half of the court??

I mean, I like the team we have, but we need defense like a burger needs cheese. Like beans need a tortilla. Like fish need water.

    Sigh.

    • themars211 - Aug 27, 2014 at 6:09 PM

Malt you are having a breakdown…we will be okay lmao!!! I don’t know if we will be all that good to our standards but probably not as bad as the naysayers keep claiming.

      • sunsbolts7 - Aug 29, 2014 at 2:55 AM

You’re right. The Lakers will be just good enough to give the Suns their 1st round pick in the 6-10 range.

  8. themars211 - Aug 27, 2014 at 6:10 PM

Drink an Ole English and chill bro….we will survive lol

  9. RonKarate - Aug 27, 2014 at 6:17 PM

No! Ed Davis should get the minutes.

  10. sportsfan18 - Aug 27, 2014 at 6:19 PM

The team formerly known as the Lakers would NEVER have signed a joker like this…

    WOULD. NOT. HAVE. HAPPENED.

    • sportsfan18 - Aug 27, 2014 at 6:21 PM

      RIP Dr. Buss…

I think we can hear Dr. Buss screaming at his son while he’s rolling over in his grave…

      “NO JIMEEEEEEE!!!!”

      • asimonetti88 - Aug 27, 2014 at 7:04 PM

I mean… the Lakers in the past have signed guys like Benoit Benjamin, JR Rider, Dennis Rodman…

      • sportsfan18 - Aug 27, 2014 at 7:24 PM

        asimonetti

I was actually giving props to the Lakers as teams with West, Wilt, Kareem, Magic, Worthy, Shaq and Kobe would never have signed guys like Beasley…

Oops, gotta scratch Kobe off of that list…

I mean a player of Beasley’s talent would never have made the Showtime Lakers.

        WOULD. NOT. HAVE. HAPPENED.

I mean the Lakers in the 80’s won the following # of games

        54
        57
        58
        54
        62
        62
        65
        62
        57
        63

        The Lakers won 5 titles in the 80’s (counting 1980, 82, 85, 87 & 88)

The Lakers lost titles in 83, 84 & 89 and I mean that as a compliment as they were playing for the title and they won more of them than they lost.

That the Lakers of today could sign this guy shows it isn’t one of the bright spots in team history was my original point is all sir…

Ya’ll have a LOT to be proud of…

P.S. Not last season, or this season though…

But still, you’re a proud franchise. The Lakers and the Celtics are both “The Man” in the NBA…

    • themars211 - Aug 27, 2014 at 6:29 PM

Wrong….we have been showing some interest in Beasley off an on the last few years actually back to Phil Jackson’s last few seasons.

    • musician0785 - Aug 27, 2014 at 6:52 PM

I guess you have no recollection if JR Rider

      • musician0785 - Aug 27, 2014 at 6:53 PM

        of*

      • themars211 - Aug 27, 2014 at 7:35 PM

Isiah JR Rider won a ring with the Lakers. He was a real hood dude from Oakland. He was like the NBA version of Marshawn Lynch…lmao

      • sportsfan18 - Aug 27, 2014 at 7:37 PM

        musician

I was trying to give the Lakers props by saying how great of a franchise they’ve been over time.

I wrote more about that above since some were too upset and taken back with what I said previously.

Thick skin should be a prerequisite to posting online for folks…

Too many thin skinned fools that get their hiney’s out of whack…

      • billtetley53 - Aug 28, 2014 at 8:56 AM

Hey pissy eyes. I found a list of your favorite songs:

        1 Tears are falling -Kiss

4 Tracks of my tears Smokey again
        5 96 tears – ? and the mysterians
6 No more tears – Ozzy
7 Tears on my pillow- Little Anthony
8 Jamies crying – Van Halen
        9 Crying- Roy Orbison

14 Big Girls dont cry- 4 Seasons
15Cry like a baby – The Box Tops

        Next up, your favorite bands!

      • musician0785 - Aug 28, 2014 at 2:29 PM

You’re trying way too hard…..and i’m not sure how mentioning JR rider is “crying” but i’m guessing you’ll do almost anything to keep up the bit. How long did it take you to come up with this 3….4 months? What a loser you must be.

      • musician0785 - Aug 28, 2014 at 2:31 PM

White Snake? Roy Orbison? The 4 seasons? How old are you? My guess is way too old to be listing songs on a BASKETBALL website, all for the sake of some unfunny joke.

      • billtetley53 - Aug 28, 2014 at 3:30 PM

It took me 3 or 4 minutes to look them up and type them out.
All you have to do is goifle songs with tears or crying in the title.

        It worked though, you responded.

        Your favorite bands?
        1 Tears for Fears
        2 Drivin n Cryin
3 Bob Marley and the “Wailers”
        4 Boys dont Cry
        5 Cry Wolf
        6 Sniff N the Tears
        7 Blood Sweat and Tears
        8 “S.O.B” band- get it ?
        9 “Bawl” and Chain
        10 Waterworks

That was tougher to do, but I got 10.

Anything you type is crying. You barely let 1 lakers story go by without feeling you have to be the defender of the faith.

You and Monetti both take it as a personal affront if anyone says anything negative about the lakers. So, I choose to annoy you, and you keep responding, you cant help yourself.

      • musician0785 - Aug 28, 2014 at 3:48 PM

all you care about is that i respond? haha ok……

      • musician0785 - Aug 28, 2014 at 3:55 PM

Let me get this straight, you spend your free time trying to get a rise out of another man…….gotcha……..to each his own I guess.

      • musician0785 - Aug 28, 2014 at 3:56 PM

you think this is annoying me? I find losers like you comical. Its actually funny to me that you spend so much time trying to get under the skin of people you never met, and most likely never will meet.

  11. luz56 - Aug 27, 2014 at 6:21 PM

Oh how the mighty Hollywood Fakers fallen…. To take on this piece of crap smells of total desperation

    • themars211 - Aug 27, 2014 at 6:30 PM

And who is your team? #hatersgonnahate

      • 00maltliquor - Aug 27, 2014 at 6:45 PM

This year or last year? Last year he was a Heat fan. This year he’s a Cavalier.

      • themars211 - Aug 27, 2014 at 7:10 PM

Oh one of those fellas….how does LBJ wife ever get a turn with all these dudes on his n uts…lol

      • sportsfan18 - Aug 27, 2014 at 7:39 PM

doesn’t matter who’s team is his as that has no bearing on his statement.

The Lakers ARE a proud franchise. The Lakers and the Celtics are “The Man” in the NBA.

The Lakers HAVE fallen and that’s the truth regardless of any other team any of us may root for.

Does rooting for the Bulls make his statement less true?

Does rooting for the Suns make his statement less true?

The Lakers either have or have not fallen and that is not dependent on which team another roots for…

      • 00maltliquor - Aug 27, 2014 at 9:12 PM

        @sportsfan18

C’mon bud, as you stated in this very post above, posters should have thicker skin as a prerequisite.

Take off your tie and have a beer. We’re just over here shooting the s. Hit

It’s all in fun and games.

      fordemandalay,

what general area of the south are you from if I may ask?

I said general as I’m not asking or expecting for an exact location

  13. mackcarrington - Aug 27, 2014 at 7:58 PM

    Just a training camp body.

  14. 202folife - Aug 27, 2014 at 8:50 PM

The LOLakers are booty son. Like Kobe is gonna get along with Beasley. I’m going to really enjoy watching Kobe’s mind make him do things his body can no longer match for the next two seasons. He’s (Kobe) gonna shoot 40% from the field trying to average 20 points a game.

  15. mazblast - Aug 27, 2014 at 9:39 PM

    How the mighty have fallen.
