Derrick Rose sits out another Team USA practice, not likely to start Wednesday

Aug 19, 2014, 3:18 PM EDT

Derrick Rose Derrick Rose

For the second day in a row, Derrick Rose sat out a Team USA practice. He got up a few shots after practice but did not run through drills.

For the second day in a row everyone says he is fine, it is just precautionary. There’s no reason to think otherwise and there is certainly no reason to push him hard for summer practices and exhibition games.

Speaking of those FIBA World Cup tune up games, the USA has one Wednesday night and Rose, who started against Brazil, may not against the Dominican Republic at Madison Square Garden, reports John Schuhmann of

Nothing to see here, move along.

Although after the last couple years, we’ll be keeping a closer eye on Rose as he goes forward into the season.

Tom Thibodeau is going to have to get his star some in season rest this year, a few days off. That’s not usually his style, but times they are a changin’.

Guys step your game up. I need a video with exciting graphics. DERRICK ROSE 2014: DAY 3 NO DRILLS!

Then I need 10 straight minutes of 3 people discussing back and forth about why this isn’t a big deal. Then I need you to post an article full of quotes from the video of expert no practice analysis.

    Derrick who??

  3. rrhoe - Aug 19, 2014 at 4:07 PM

For a player that needed to shake the rust off his game missing practices doesn’t sound too good.

    • chicitybulls - Aug 19, 2014 at 4:19 PM

The rust just needs to be off by the start of the regular season. There’s plenty of time for that.

      • rrhoe - Aug 19, 2014 at 11:19 PM

I am guessing by your user name you are a Bulls fan and your seasons success/failure rest with D-Rose’s health but the reality is if he cannot go then he should be replaced. It is not USA basketballs job to have Rose on a maintenance program when they can simply replace him, sorry to bear the bad news. He worries about his conditioning on one hand and shaking the rust off his game on the other hand, but he’s missing practices and may have to sit games, come on now. I like Rose just as much as the next guy and I hope it is what they say but I have to read between the lines on this one.

If they think he gives them the best chance to win and understand that he’s coming off of a surgery and are willing to do what it takes to have him on the team then who is anyone to say that they shouldn’t? They’re the ones seeing him everyday. No one on this site is seeing him in practice. From what I’ve seen (him playing in games) he looks fine. Soreness is expected. He’ll have to rest during the Bulls season too. No sane person is expecting him to play all 82 games and then turn around and play every playoff game. He will play the playoff games but he wont (and shouldn’t) play all 82 games.

I think his knee is shot.

  5. marcusfitzhugh - Aug 19, 2014 at 4:18 PM

Yeah, right, nothing wrong, the guy just can’t practice, that’s all. smh

I really look forward to the regular season so the nonsensical excuses can stop and we find out if the guy can play.

    The new Dwayne Wade.

Will have to be on the 54 game / season plan (definitely no back – to – backs).

Will lead Bulls to a 2nd round pounding thanks to the Cavs.

    • chicitybulls - Aug 19, 2014 at 4:22 PM

And if it doesn’t and they win the ECF will you be man enough to come back and say that you were wrong? Of course not.

      • nflcrimerankingscom - Aug 19, 2014 at 7:11 PM

        of course.

    • bringin1234 - Aug 19, 2014 at 4:34 PM

nope, he had the surgery to repair his cartilage in his knees, Wade had it removed. He has played 10 games in 2 years even he said his conditioning isn’t where its supposed to be.

  7. handsomerob86 - Aug 19, 2014 at 4:38 PM

Didn’t they say something like this last year, and then a week later he was having surgery? I will believe its nothing when hes back on the court again.

    • asimonetti88 - Aug 19, 2014 at 4:41 PM

lol, dude was on the court yesterday.

      • chicitybulls - Aug 19, 2014 at 4:57 PM

And last week and the week before that…

  8. seriouslaughable - Aug 19, 2014 at 5:14 PM

If he was 100% he’d be playing.

    • ghelton03 - Aug 20, 2014 at 2:53 AM

He said he only plays unless he is 110%. No sense in helping your team if you are only 100%. He is the most self-centered chump in sports today.

  9. rodge1 - Aug 19, 2014 at 5:31 PM

D Rose will not be D Wade until he wins 3 rings.

  10. mnsadsportsfan - Aug 19, 2014 at 7:01 PM

    He is done.

  11. ProBasketballPundit - Aug 19, 2014 at 9:09 PM

I’m sorry but this is fishy. Like many have already said, these practices and scrimmages were supposed to help him knock the rust off. My guess is he still has a little discomfort or swelling in the knee.

  12. ghelton03 - Aug 20, 2014 at 2:48 AM

Typical D-Rose. He will not play if there is a chance that he will lose marketing value. D-Rose is all about the money. He could care less about the team or winning, unless it improves his marketability.

  13. chicago240 - Aug 20, 2014 at 5:00 PM

Sigh. All that hype and we’re right back where we started. Chicago is short a dependable superstar. And honestly, if you were forced to put your own big money on it, would you really put it on the side that he’s gonna be just fine…..or limited in playing time and impact. Regretfully today’s news suggests the last couple years of ailments won’t be in the past alone.

  14. xli2006 - Aug 20, 2014 at 7:23 PM

Probably going to linger throughout most of his career. You don’t just rebuild both knees and expect to play 100 games/yr without issue.

Kind if shocked he is even playing in this event. More miles on his knees right before a season begins doesn’t seem physically ideal imo.
