This is why you want Anthony Davis as the Team USA center (VIDEO)

Aug 17, 2014, 8:00 AM EDT

Soon — maybe by the end of this season, certainly within two years — Anthony Davis is going to be the third best player in the NBA. (Coach Mike Dunleavy Sr. said on SiriusXM NBA radio last week he thinks he might be right now.)

He will play the four for the Pelicans this year, but this video shows you why you want him as the five in International ball. He’s guarding his man in the paint, slides over to make the defensive play but when Alex Garcia loses the ball Davis grabs it, dribbles the ball  up out of traffic, passes to Klay Thompson, then Davis just outruns everyone down the court for the alley-oop.

Exactly what international team is going to match that?

“We think he’s one of the top players in the league and we need for him to be that five that nobody has,” Team coach Mike Krzyzewski said to PBT in Las Vegas. “Everyone talks about things we don’t have, well they don’t have him.”

Davis finished with 20 points (on 15 shots), 8 rebounds and 5 blocks on the night. The Chicago native was pretty much Team USA’s best player at the United Center.

The World Cup tournament could well be a breakout for him.

I really invested in the Pels last season and they just couldn’t put it together but I have high hopes again this year. Asik and Davis are going to be nightmares for the other teams offence and Anderson’s versatility should put him up for 6th man. Evans was puttin up rookie Reke numbers starting at the 2 and Jrue was fantastic pre-injury. Biggest goal? Trade Eric Gordon for a serviceable SF. With TJ Warren and PJ Tucker, would the Suns part with Gerald Green?

I liked your comment all the way until it said trade for Gerald Green. You don’t want Gerald Green. Gordon and Green are perhaps equals alone – while Warren (an interesting talent) could really come up!

But you can’t compare a player coming off the best year he’s had (Green) with a player off the worst year he’s had (Gordon) — If you look at their careers as a whole, Gordon is the better talent (and plenty younger.) …. Boy if they just never traded away Noel though..

Yeah I understand the difference in their career years, but this is more on fit. Tyreke needs minutes at the 2, and Eric can’t play the 3. Even if you’re downgrading talent, I’d be happy just to see the offence and defence fit that little bit better, you know? I’m not sure if Suns would part with TJ Warren, probably take him if they would! That said, the Pels would prefer a 3PT shooter to space the floor there

Anthony Davis is a great defender but not so much a rim protector. He’s surprisingly a much better wing defender; he blocks more jump shots than he does layups.

That’s why he & Omer Asik will be awesome together this year.

      Pro,

I’m with you on this all the way…

It’s about what plays bring together. Omer has his strengths and his weaknesses but I think the two of these guys together is going to work out well for them and their team.

I think their games will compliment each other and Omer will free Davis up from playing the 5 and banging with bigs all game long.

Davis wingspan is long it’s easy for him to deflect or block jump-shooters.

I said it when he came out and he’s proving me right. He will be leaps and bounds better than Dwight Howard. This kid can play like a gaurd and is built like a center. Scary!!!’

    Is he a 4? Yes.
    Is he a 5? Yes
    Is he a 3? Yes
    Is he young? Yes
Does he have a good team around him?
    Yes

If everything goes right the Pels will be dangerous for a long time,
