James Harden’s top 10 plays of the 2013-14 season (VIDEO)

Aug 16, 2014, 2:30 PM EDT

When consumed in bulk quantities over the long course of the NBA season, the play of James Harden doesn’t immediately come to mind as one of the game’s more aesthetically pleasing.

But there’s no doubting his status as one of the game’s elite offensive players, and this compilation of his best plays from the 2013-14 season showcases this, often fantastically.

There are more clutch shots in this mix than those who aren’t diehard Rockets fan might remember, and of course there are some signature drives where he scores over defenders in traffic. But the agility Harden shows in the number one play is sure to bring a smile to your face.

Harden went from underrated in 2012 to overrated in 2013 back down to underrated with everybody bashing him so hard on his defensive play.

#8 should be more like #2 or #1

    Where’s his defensive highlight?

    • muhangis - Aug 17, 2014 at 1:47 AM

Highlights are about 99% offensive for 99% of the players with highlight reels.

      • sportsfan18 - Aug 17, 2014 at 9:46 AM

WHY? Defense is 50% of the game and offense is 50% of the game.

        @ sportsfan18

        You know why.

      • sportsfan18 - Aug 17, 2014 at 2:54 PM

yep, chicks dig the long ball

money is for offensive players because folks like glitz and glitter

folks don’t like hard work, effort etc…

Defense is just as important as offense but offense gets 90 plus percent of the attention.

fans are guilty of perpetuating this too.

funny though, guys like MJ, Kobe and LBJ play defense too and well.

yet guys like Melo and Harden don’t play D and they are max guys too.

yeah, i’m not a G.M. but a max guy should play on both ends of the floor.

I love Harden’s game but when shots are don’t fall then he flop to get his points, peep how he initiated contact into Slinger and threw ball up in the air. That happens 10x a night.

    Top 10 plays?

Shouldn’t there be at least one or two defensive plays then?

Not really I guess. I bet a list of Harden’s top 60 or 70 plays still wouldn’t include even one defensive play from him.

Ha ha…just couldn’t hold the hate in could you?

      • sportsfan18 - Aug 17, 2014 at 9:48 AM

defense IS 50% of the game. A FULL HALF of the game.

        offense and DEFENSE

a great player should do well in both, he doesn’t and it isn’t just me saying that.

it’s WELL known that he isn’t a good defender and worse than that, he doesn’t really try to play defense either.

I guess he thinks he isn’t paid enough to even try to play defense because he doesn’t.

you may call it hate, I call it truth.

^^ How do people even get born this stupid?

If you’ve ever seen any player’s top 10 plays reel, you will see all 10 are O plays for all of them!

Harden is not considered a bad defensive player in this league. What’s with you people, who assume that just because a player’s defense is not raved about, well then that has to mean he SUCKS on D! Ppl like you guys are so narrow minded, to you either he is outstanding on D or if he’s not then he’s awful, there can be no average, or above average, or in the middle.

Sportsfan, your logic and reasoning is pathetic!

His defense is a role player.
