Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan are the same player (part 3)

Aug 6, 2014, 9:50 AM EST

Kobe Bryant with Michael Jordan

Michael Jordan once said Kobe Bryant was the only player who deserved to be compared to him.

Frankly, LeBron James is the only current player with a chance to catch Jordan as the best player of all time.

But, stylistically, nobody matches Kobe as a Jordan heir. Just watch this incredible video (hat tip: Des Bieler of The Washington Post):

That’s actually the third video blending Jordan’s and Kobe’s moves and mannerisms.

Here’s part 1:

And part 2:

It is scary sometimes watching how close he has the moves down. And when did it become such a bad thing to emulate yourself after one of the greats, or the greatest? Many reasons to hate on Kobe, that shouldn’t be one.

    • 00maltliquor - Aug 6, 2014 at 6:02 PM

I know! Everyone wants to send their teams big man to Kareem or Hakeem to learn their moves, but Kobe takes a few things from the G.O.A.T. look out!!!!

  2. 88heatnation - Aug 6, 2014 at 10:04 AM

Moral to the story: Be your own person. There will only be one MJ.

    • money2long - Aug 6, 2014 at 10:19 AM

It’s a basketball move. Ur comparing that to life ?

    • asimonetti88 - Aug 6, 2014 at 10:28 AM

Yes, it hasn’t really worked out for Kobe, has it.

    • 5xchamp24 - Aug 6, 2014 at 5:25 PM

And so have you ever been playing bball and while your making a move to the basket, yell out “MJ” or some other great players name? We all did it cause we were trying to shoot and play like them. Get over it will ya.

      • 00maltliquor - Aug 6, 2014 at 6:06 PM

I like to shout out “Peeler”! when taking a three.

  3. bballhistorian - Aug 6, 2014 at 10:08 AM

MJ is the originator. Kobe is the remixx, baby!

Seems like in the end, Kobe actually has more skills than MJ (taking his moves + adding more of his own). But in the end, people respect the Originator more than the duplicator.

    • m4a188 - Aug 6, 2014 at 11:00 AM

      how does it taste?

  4. ranoversquarells - Aug 6, 2014 at 10:29 AM

    Boooo Israel

    • patfic5 - Aug 6, 2014 at 11:41 AM

Troll. Piss off. Same comment everyday.

      • redbaronx - Aug 6, 2014 at 1:47 PM

@patfic5 – ranoversquarells can’t say anything else. All he can say is boo. Ask one of these guys to get into an intellectual dialog, they can’t do any more than that. He’s just a moron.

    • fiyeaglesfiy - Aug 6, 2014 at 3:20 PM

PBT – can you please censor some of the idiots that post on here before you lose readers. Use this idiot as an example. thanks.

      • 00maltliquor - Aug 6, 2014 at 6:09 PM

        Booooo

      • jimeejohnson - Aug 7, 2014 at 9:38 AM

Cannot believe you guys worry about what some Hamas supporter says. Who cares: Israel planted them like tulips, and could have vaporized the entire Gaza strip. Hamas is like the Knicks: they suck!

  5. simonwelds - Aug 6, 2014 at 10:31 AM

I thought as kids we all wanted to be like mike… Kobe actually pulled it off… Much respect

  6. misremembered72 - Aug 6, 2014 at 10:43 AM

    wow… uncannily similar

    • sportsfan18 - Aug 6, 2014 at 11:00 AM

      yeah…

      looks can be deceiving though…

they make Kia’s and other cars to LOOK like Mercedes too…

wow, Kia and Kobe, both begin with K… what a coincidence folks!!

      • spthegr8 - Aug 6, 2014 at 11:44 AM

What Kia look’s like a Mercedes.?? From someone who works in the auto industry. I am DYING to know.? I’ll wait………

      • sportsfan18 - Aug 6, 2014 at 12:34 PM

my point was in general there…

they make the fronts of some cars that look like other cars… body styling etc…

many cheaper cars are made to look like more expensive cars…

if you can’t tell, I was just having some fun with “looks can be deceiving” when comparing Kobe to the GOAT.

        THAT was my point.

i’m NOT worried about which car… I just used a car with a K for Kobe.

thought it wouldn’t be that difficult to figure out.

hey, I worked for the auto industry too, I was the Production Control Manager for a facility in TN that was Japanese owned…

I was there when the earthquake and tsunami hit in Japan and that played havoc with the supply chain in short order and it was a crazy 6 to 9 months afterwards for sure.

    Why is Lebron even mentioned

    • sonnysuave - Aug 6, 2014 at 5:05 PM

MJ > Kobe > Lebron. FACT! Aaaaaand, here come the haters & thumbs down! Lol!

      • divan22 - Aug 7, 2014 at 1:59 AM

Aside from FT shooting, Kobe has absolutely NOTHING on LeBron as a b-ball player. Nice try!

  8. loungefly74 - Aug 6, 2014 at 11:17 AM

Lucky to live my life seeing the full careers of Kobe and MJ. Never was a true Bulls fan but I did love to watch them in the 90’s with his heirness & co. And how fortunate that my Lakers nabbed Kobe away from the Hornets. Basketball life has been good.

    • sonnysuave - Aug 6, 2014 at 5:11 PM

I share the same sentiment, loungefly. MJ & Kobe… unmatchable competitive spirits! Lebron? Not so competitive… dood only has 2 rings. Aaaaaand here come more haters! Lol! Decided to make today “let’s screw w/ lebron fans” day… hehehe.

    • 00maltliquor - Aug 6, 2014 at 6:12 PM

      *His Airness

      • loungefly74 - Aug 7, 2014 at 9:21 AM

LOL. yes…you are correct. i completely gaffed that up!

  9. boston444 - Aug 6, 2014 at 11:41 AM

Lebron is the only one with a chance to catch MJ? I think you’re forgetting about KD

    • sportsfan18 - Aug 6, 2014 at 12:38 PM

      I really like KD…

He’s so efficient scoring the ball… he doesn’t need lots and lots of shots like others (see Melo and Kobe) to score a lot as there is a different between being a great scorer and scoring a lot.

Anyway, as great as KD is, he doesn’t have a chance to catch MJ to become the GOAT.

      • loungefly74 - Aug 7, 2014 at 9:23 AM

KD will be great like how Tim Duncan is great. nothing to laugh…but different for some reason…

  10. themars211 - Aug 6, 2014 at 1:31 PM

Lebron James 2-3 in NBA finals. Won’t catch him in this lifetime.

  11. 24thesho - Aug 6, 2014 at 1:46 PM

I forgot to reiterate: LB must take and make the or a game winning shot in a game 6 or 7 in the NBA Finals to win it all when it’s all on the line, at some point in his career.

    • hudgeliberal - Aug 6, 2014 at 5:54 PM

      Agree bro.

  12. iammr713 - Aug 6, 2014 at 5:49 PM

Every kid wanted to be like Mike, EVERY!! Every kid that has ever picked up a basketball has done the 5 second countdown & fade away like MJ.Every kid wanted to do MJ moves & y’all mad because Kobe mastered it? #TheHateIsReal #KobeTop5

  13. jimeejohnson - Aug 7, 2014 at 9:44 AM

Lakers have to be better than last season if Kobe suits up and plays.
