Andrew Wiggins still hasn’t spoken to LeBron James

Sign 1,439 that Andrew Wiggins will be traded from the Cavaliers…

He still hasn’t spoken to LeBron James.

Wiggins said the Cavaliers haven’t told him anything yet and we know LeBron is in the win-now mode and Kevin Love does that faster than Wiggins, so I guess this should not be a surprise. At the rookie photo shoot Wiggins said again he and LeBron haven’t spoken reports the New York Post, and he still plays it down.

“No. I’m sure he’s busy,” Wiggins said. “I feel like I’m busy, so I am sure he’s busy.”

LeBron reportedly wasn’t too busy to call Love and try to recruit him, but sure, he’s busy.

That said, if LeBron reaches out to Wiggins saying, “Hey, can’t wait to play with you” it gets a little awkward. So he goes silent. It’s really the only play.

Wiggins knows how this is going to end. You know it. I know it. LeBron and Love both know it. So does Flip Saunders and David Griffin (the GMs involved) know it. There may be a few details about who goes for whom that have yet to be finalized, but we pretty much know how the movie ends.

Wiggins cannot be traded until Aug. 23 (30-day moratorium after signing his rookie contract) but it’s likely closer to the start of training camp before it gets finalized. But it will. Then Wiggins and Zach LaVine will turn Minnesota into a festival of high-flying dunks. Not a lot of wins, but they will be entertaining.

Feel bad for this kid. Every player coming out of college probably dreams of playing with LeBron, and now he’s pretty much being shunned by the team that fell in love with him just two months ago.

    • antistratfordian - Aug 4, 2014 at 2:36 AM

I think it’s a stretch to say that the Cavs fell in Love with him. He wasn’t their first choice and after Embiid went down they tried to trade the pick.

      • antistratfordian - Aug 4, 2014 at 2:37 AM

See how I capitalized love? Freudian slip.

      • therealhtj - Aug 4, 2014 at 10:21 AM

Hey if he was Kobe’s teammate, it’d take him until he made an all-star team before Kobe would speak to him.

    • hoopfan71 - Aug 4, 2014 at 10:02 AM

I’m sure Wiggins and his millions are crying themselves to sleep at night.

      • therealhtj - Aug 4, 2014 at 10:22 AM

Getting out of Cleveland is nothing to cry about. Pretty much everyone there wants to escape. Problem is, landing with the Wolves is like escaping Alcatraz to move to Leavenworth.

      • themars211 - Aug 4, 2014 at 1:37 PM

@therealhtj – that comment made my morning even though Alcatraz has been closed for decades now….lmao

      • tved12 - Aug 4, 2014 at 1:37 PM

        therealhtj,

You ever been to Minneapolis? Or are you just repeating what others like to say?

Oh no, cold weather, how could a kid from Canada enjoy that place?

  2. csbanter - Aug 4, 2014 at 1:45 AM

Why is PBT trying to torture Wiggins ? He didn’t give SI.com the exclusive Lebron scoop. Seems like its personal with PBT and Wiggins. He’s an 18 year old kid trying to live his dream.

  3. jcampol - Aug 4, 2014 at 1:50 AM

Why must you people try to turn every little thing into tmz?

  4. metalhead65 - Aug 4, 2014 at 2:02 AM

can’t wait for this to finally be over so the wolves can win 15 games and blame that on Love. but hey they will be entertaining without those useless double doubles they like to complain about right? maybe Love will send them a post card when he makes the playoffs so his former teamates knows how much they are to be in.

  5. antistratfordian - Aug 4, 2014 at 2:34 AM

That’s a pretty cool picture, and the gray skies are fitting.

The interviewer should’ve responded with: “Well he’s talking to Kyrie Irving and Tristan Thompson. He even took the time to call Kevin Love, who isn’t even on his team. He doesn’t seem to be too busy for them. How does that make you feel?”

  6. canucks30 - Aug 4, 2014 at 3:24 AM

He, along with Anthony Bennett, wasn’t mentioned in Lebron’s now infamous Letter either. I don’t think it’s a coincidence.

  7. jrob23 - Aug 4, 2014 at 5:31 AM

“Then Wiggins and Zach LaVine will turn Minnesota into a festival of high-flying dunks. Not a lot of wins, but they will be entertaining. ”

and you know this..how? Two very young athletic and long players who can defend other team’s best players can very well turn things around and result in wins.

    • blueintown - Aug 4, 2014 at 6:50 AM

“Two very young athletic and long players who can defend other team’s best players can very well turn things around and result in wins.”

      And you know this how?

      • Bob Loblaw - Aug 4, 2014 at 8:58 AM

I believe there is a difference between “not a lot of wins” and “can very well…”. One is a definitive statement, from the author of this article, that Minnesota will not get wins. Whereas, the poster is saying those two young and athletic players could very well lead Minny to wins. Not definitively, as the author is writing. But more of a possibility. It would be great to see them make the playoffs with Wiggins going right up the a** of Love and the rest of the people who blame everything and everybody except Love for them missing the playoffs.

      • tved12 - Aug 4, 2014 at 1:40 PM

Nobody knows, it’s an educated guess at most. That’s why you shouldn’t state it as if it’s a fact, which is what the author did.

Notice how jrob used the word “can.” That means he’s not one of these dopes who likes to spit absolutes unlike the know-it-all writer.

  8. DonRSD - Aug 4, 2014 at 6:34 AM

If LeBron isn’t leaving the Cavs, keep Wiggins and just sign Love at the end of the year.
The early signs of LeBron not winning a ring without #6 on his back.
Let the championship years STAY in Miami.

    LETS GO HEAT!!!

    • therealhtj - Aug 4, 2014 at 10:28 AM

There’s a little thing called the CBA, and in that pesky sucker, there’s this annoying salary cap. Between Lebron and Kyrie, and the 10 or so other players they need to fill out a roster, they really won’t have cap space available to sign Love.

Unless Love were willing to sign for less, and we all know how NBA stars are all just itching to give up money. It’s one thing to flock to play with Lebron in Miami. But Cleveland – how’d that work out for you last time?

  9. campcouch - Aug 4, 2014 at 6:42 AM

It’s like they’re making LeBron out to be a villain. I’d love to see Wiggins stay, but if James put a bug in Gilbert’s ear and said this is what or who I want, I’m sure he took heed. I doubt he’s anti-Wiggins, he just knows what he’s observed with Irving, Waiters and Love and figures that gives the organization the best chance. This may be what Wiggins and Bennett need, a really young team to get their lumps with. We know Rubio isn’t scoring so that leaves shots for him and the hot dog vendor. If/when he does get traded, he should embrace it. No need to feel sorry for the #1 pick.

  10. ravenswhat - Aug 4, 2014 at 7:12 AM

Why are people pounding on everything this kid says? Give us a break. He’s a teenager for gods sake! Yes, we know he’s getting traded. He likely knows he’s getting traded. These are the answers of a non media savvy guy caught in a situation way beyond his pay grade. Nothing else.

  11. canucks30 - Aug 4, 2014 at 7:35 AM

“Everybody was excited, I can’t wait for him to come back. I can learn a lot from him on and off the court.”

-Anthony Bennett re: LeBron James return to Cleveland

“It will be a great learning experience, kind of being under his wing, I was just happy to hear the best player is coming to (my) team. It will be great for me. We’ll bring it every day, just like he will. Hopefully he’ll take us under his wing and teach us what it takes to get to his level, build a championship team.”

-Andrew Wiggins re: LeBron James return to Cleveland

Instead, they get to play for a franchise that has won 2 playoff series and 17 playoff games in 25 years.

  12. tv63 - Aug 4, 2014 at 7:55 AM

It would be so funny if Silver put a stop to trade.

    • tv63 - Aug 4, 2014 at 8:00 AM

The whole point of winning the lottery is to help a struggling team and they do this? Kinda defeats the purpose. He shouldn’t be allowed to be traded especially a first round pick.

      • sportsfan18 - Aug 4, 2014 at 8:19 AM

and trading for Love to pair up with Lebron and Kyrie wouldn’t be helping a struggling team?

that would make the favorites in the Eastern Conf. I’d say that would help them.

      • Bob Loblaw - Aug 4, 2014 at 9:03 AM

Reminds me of the 96-97 season when the Admiral got hurt and the SA Spurs TANKED to get Tim Duncan. The next year, they get Robinson back, plus Tim Duncan, win 56 games and the year after that they win the title.

In this case, the Cavs didn’t tank. The league handed them the #1 pick…err, they lucked into the #1 pick for the 3rd time in 4 years…AND they got LeBron back.

Problem is that Wiggins isn’t projected to be Duncan and so the Cavs are going to forgo their future for Kevin Love. Dumb move for 5 years from now, but smart for the next couple I guess. But if we hear anything bad about their defense, while Wiggins is as good as advertised on the defensive end, then I hope the pundits are ballsy enough to rip Cleveland for making the Wiggins/Love deal. I personally think they would make a great defensive team with Wiggins/LeBron out there, but hey…Love and his 26/12 is what everybody sees.

        We shall see.

  13. miamboy - Aug 4, 2014 at 8:35 AM

I think LeBron Knows Wiggins will be gone for Kevin love…he came to Miami to win a ring. But, as soon as the cav’s have a winnable team he take’s off! It has NOTHING to do about his home town!and everything to do about going to a team where he knows their going to contend in the east!goodluck Cleveland fan’s!your ticket prices for nose bleed seats, just went to 350bucks!

  14. 88heatnation - Aug 4, 2014 at 8:36 AM

I think Lebron never liked that idea of the Cavs drafting another potential franchise changing possible star at the SF spot to take the Cavs back to relevance and contending in the near future. That spot is his and he made it known in the letter naming every position, except the 3 spot which he will hold down. It only makes sense not only by his actions but the timing of transition.

  15. divan22 - Aug 4, 2014 at 8:45 AM

Haha such an arrogant tone from a “journalist” who can barely cobble sentences together.

  16. mogogo1 - Aug 4, 2014 at 10:01 AM

Clearly, it’s an awkward situation but you’d think LeBron would have made some overture to the kid. Even LeBron isn’t in full control of every situation and there’s some possibility they’ll still be teammates. Why purposefully alienate somebody?

  17. loungefly74 - Aug 4, 2014 at 10:17 AM

yeah…Wiggins will be in a T-Wolves uniform. and thats okay. he will get a chance to be the cornerstone of that franchise. also, its okay for lebron to not lead the kid on…why talk about what “they can do together” when we all know it aint gonna happen.

  18. bgrillz - Aug 4, 2014 at 10:58 AM

Still think after all the right the Cavs have done extending Irving, and drafting Wiggins, and getting Lebron back. I think it would be a mistake to trade Wiggins. He’s going to be a start, and that star will rise faster with this team. You’d be sending him ti a wasteland in Minnesota, and Love is a solid player. But i think injuries are starting to add up, and he’s got a lot of miles on him right now. This could be a really fast strong team for many years, and sure they may not win this year, Kevin Love in the fold, no guarantee they win anyways, the west is so damn strong. So keep Wiggins and build. Lebron is 29, he is not 35.

  19. eazylaidback - Aug 4, 2014 at 6:52 PM

rubio+lavine+wiggins= sportscenter top 10 every week
i may actually tune in to T’wolves games now. a shame how that ownership failed KLove hopefully they manage not to fudge up another rebuild

  20. seasickcecil - Aug 4, 2014 at 8:01 PM

I believe Lebron will reach out to the kid after the trade. There’s not a lot he could actually say to the kid right now.
