Andrew Wiggins Cavaliers jerseys ‘discontinued’ at NBA’s online store

It’s far from a secret that the Timberwolves are heavily engaged in trade talks with the Cavaliers on a deal that would send Kevin Love to Cleveland to play alongside LeBron James.

Cleveland is reportedly the last team standing as a legitimate option for Minnesota, and any deal that lands Love would require the Cavaliers to send back this year’s number one overall pick in Andrew Wiggins, along with other assets like Anthony Bennett and a future draft pick to make things desirable enough for the Timberwolves to finally accept.

It wouldn’t be unreasonable, then, for the NBA to cease the sale of Cavaliers jerseys featuring Wiggins’ name and number, if it’s likely he’ll be traded before he ever gets to wear one in a regular season contest.

The NBA’s online store appears to have done exactly that.

A link to the page can be found here, which shows Wiggins’ jersey as having been “discontinued.” It’s noteworthy because there are plenty of jerseys available for other recently-drafted players, including Dante Exum, Julius Randle, and even the injured Joel Embiid. And, when you search for Wiggins on the store site, you are brought to a page that only shows customizable Cavaliers gear, with one t-shirt that shows Wiggins by name and number — though it’s likely that those similarly may never ship.

“This is a special event item. Orders containing this item will be shipped separately. This item will ship within 2-4 weeks after the player has officially signed his contract,” it says in red lettering on the product page.

This may seem like some nothing more than conspiracy theory nonsense, but it’s worth noting that Love pulled out of USA Basketball due to the trade reportedly being in the works, and Bennett was pulled from participating in a pro-am by his agent for likely the very same reason.

It could be that the league doesn’t want to be stuck having to deal with a bunch of refunds for sold jerseys that may become obsolete before they can be printed, and is taking the more cautious approach. But whether Wiggins ends up staying with the Cavaliers or leaving in trade before the season begins, fans will have to wait a while before they’re able to purchase one of his jerseys.

Buy at your own risk.. By the time it’s shipped out he’ll be in a Wolves jersey.

    • jcmeyer10 - Aug 2, 2014 at 5:10 PM

      Collector’s item at this point.

      • 00maltliquor - Aug 2, 2014 at 11:26 PM

jcmeyer’s a smart man, mama ain’t raise no fool I can see. Excellent point. The ones that did get one should hold onto it for X amount of years.

      • hoopfan71 - Aug 4, 2014 at 10:11 AM

Agree. The reward for buying a Wiggins Cavs jersey far outweighs any sort of risk.

  2. kenyante - Aug 2, 2014 at 5:05 PM

No, shut up. They’re not trading Wiggins. If they were gonna trade him they would’ve done it by now.

    • jcmeyer10 - Aug 2, 2014 at 5:10 PM

He signed his rookie deal and can;t be dealt for 30 days.

    • jeffkx - Aug 2, 2014 at 5:24 PM

I thought like you did for about the last month..but we’re trading Wiggins. Just have to accept it and accept the fact that by doing so we may have two of the top 10 players in the NBA. And maybe one of the top 5 PGs in the NBA. Not a bad position to be in.

      • trevor123698 - Aug 2, 2014 at 6:01 PM

kyrie sucks and love is a bum too.

      • jeffkx - Aug 2, 2014 at 6:05 PM

ha yikes. That may be the dumbest thing I have ever read on this site. But troll on sir.

      • sportsfan18 - Aug 2, 2014 at 6:31 PM

        trevor

I’d like to say you know a little, but you keep making it very difficult for me to think that.

      • kindasporty - Aug 2, 2014 at 10:36 PM

Trevor, you may be right, but I don’t care what they do in their personal lives. They are damn good basketball players.

    • jeffkx - Aug 2, 2014 at 5:30 PM

Along with a potential 3 2015 1sts, a decent SG in Dion and two decent PF/Cs in Andy and Tristan.

    • eugenesaxe1 - Aug 2, 2014 at 5:37 PM

Come on, keep up with the rest of the group.

    • sportsfan18 - Aug 2, 2014 at 8:06 PM

      ken

      wow, “shut up” you say…

sounds like you’re 12 yrs old

I’m sure you meant, “please be quiet”.

I take it you don’t deal with reality well do you?

Are your hands over your ears when this is talked about on sports news?

Do you cover your eyes when you read that Wiggins is wiggin out of Cleveland?

  3. cantonb0und13 - Aug 2, 2014 at 5:05 PM

Keep listing them (you know what I’m talking about).

    I’ll start… Jayden Jaymes.

  4. nfl4days - Aug 2, 2014 at 5:32 PM

looks like Dion Waiters is gonna be starting.

    • jeffkx - Aug 2, 2014 at 5:39 PM

I think Dion is a ton better than people give him credit for (myself included). He won’t ever be worth being picked #4 but he played really well late in the season as a starter when Kyrie was hurt. Plus he doesn’t take any crap from anyone. I forget what Center it was but that guy took a cheap shot at a Cavs player and Dion was in his face in about 2 seconds.

      • zoomy123 - Aug 2, 2014 at 6:40 PM

I don’t think Dion should start. His skill set can’t be fully utilized to its maximum potential because he really does need the ball. And he obviously can’t have the ball playing with LBJ, K-Love + Irving. Cleveland needs to find a way to get their hands on Shumpert who would be a much better fit as a 3-and-D guy and have Dion come off the bench w/ the second unit.

      • fanofthegame1 - Aug 2, 2014 at 10:41 PM

He has come off the bench, even in College. They already got 2 guys starting that can get in the paint, think Dion could be 6th man of year type coming off bench.

  5. jrob23 - Aug 2, 2014 at 5:37 PM

Can we all stop pretending this hasn’t already been in the works since the Lebron announcement? It’s the worst kept secret ever

    • antistratfordian - Aug 2, 2014 at 6:10 PM

It’s been in the works since BEFORE the LeBron announcement. The Cavs were trying to trade the #1 pick and players to Minnesota for Love before the draft.

      • sportsfan18 - Aug 2, 2014 at 8:08 PM

yes they were trying to deal for Love then…

Love wasn’t considering Cleveland until Lebron said he was going back there though

      • antistratfordian - Aug 2, 2014 at 8:14 PM

Obviously. The point is that Cleveland has always wanted Love, with or without LeBron.

The Cavs were leaning towards drafting Embiid, and when he went down they started exploring the trade to Minny for Love. So it’s not a LeBron conspiracy.

The good thing about this for Cleveland is that, for some reason, they have to give up less now to get Love. Before the asking price was the #1 pick and some combo of Bennett, Waiters, Jack and Thompson. Now Love can be had for only two #1 picks and Bennett.

  6. seasickcecil - Aug 2, 2014 at 6:14 PM

The Cavs were on the clock for the full 5 minutes on draft day. They were on the phone with Flip. Flip picked Andrew Wiggins.

  7. seasickcecil - Aug 2, 2014 at 6:26 PM

Or so as many talk shows in Cleveland have speculated lol.

  8. dziner305 - Aug 2, 2014 at 7:10 PM

Conspiracy Theory #1 Adam Silver/ NBA…knowing ” wanna-be-MJ”, ” LeChoke” (named by Cavaliers fans) can’t win without an NBA all-Star cast. Conspiracy Theory #2 Adam Silver/ NBA…wanna make LBJ’s undesirable team desirable.

  9. scorp16 - Aug 2, 2014 at 7:14 PM

So let’s start looking at the matchup.

    The 3… Advantage No One…Even
    The 4….Advantage SA
    The 5…Advantage SA
    The 2…Advantage SA
    The 1…Advantage SA
    Bench…Advantage SA
    Coaching….Advantage SA

Seems like this is going to work out really well for CLE.

    • wordyduke - Aug 2, 2014 at 7:20 PM

If the Cavs get to the finals in 2015, anything can happen. And if they just GET to the finals in 2015, advantage Cavs.

      • scorp16 - Aug 2, 2014 at 7:24 PM

That’s what the HEAT thought last year. San Antonio matches up better at every position. You better hope OKC or the Clippers knock them out. Otherwise it will be 2 Cle finals and 2 sweeps and you won’t be the ones holding the brooms.

      • wordyduke - Aug 2, 2014 at 8:51 PM

I didn’t mean the Cavs, in whatever form they finally take, would be better than the Spurs. Just that in a 7-game series, almost anything is possible, with bad games by key players, questionable calls, and (alas) injuries. Not likely, but possible.

And if the Cavs get to the finals in 2015, over (as Andre suggests) Chicago among others, that would be success in itself, for a team just figuring itself out.

    • andreboy1 - Aug 2, 2014 at 8:00 PM

Maybe you should look at the Bulls man-handling the Cavs before you pencil them into the Finals.

    • spideysdog - Aug 2, 2014 at 8:18 PM

Scorp.. you know nothing. At. All. The 3 is even? ROFLMAO…. I will give you advantage SA on coaching out of respect to Pops. The 4 is not advantage SA if Love is in CLE. The point is a wash for SA IF Parker plays up. And frankly… I would call the two the only TRUE advantage ON the floor for SA.

      • scorp16 - Aug 2, 2014 at 8:36 PM

So you have a 2 time NBA Finals MVP vs a 1 time NBA finals MVP and you think that is a clear cut advantage? You think there is any coincidence to the fact that When Leonard started putting up 20 a game ….LeBrons team started losing by 20 a game ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • scorp16 - Aug 2, 2014 at 8:38 PM

So your saying Love is better than Duncan? Really?…….Really? Is that what your saying?

      • tcstunner - Aug 3, 2014 at 6:36 AM

Duncan is old and Love is young. Yes Love is absolutely better than Duncan at this point in their careers. Responding is pointless though, cause you are so clueless that somehow the best player in the NBA doesn’t even get an advantage in your delusional eyes.

      • klinickal - Aug 4, 2014 at 8:39 AM

Love has better numbers than Duncan, but that doesn’t mean he is better, right now, because for all his rebounding and scoring, Love cannot lead his team to the playoffs. So we might be comparing a glorified role player with an ageing Franchise player.

    • antistratfordian - Aug 3, 2014 at 4:06 AM

This talk might be relevant if SA was going to make it to the finals again – but that’s unlikely.

  10. seasickcecil - Aug 2, 2014 at 7:53 PM

Talent wise the Cavs will have enough to beat anybody including the Spurs. The key will be David Blatt. Can he do a Pop and have these guys playing like a well oiled machine? Chemistry will have to be developed. Where Miami was sputtering on fumes in the finals this young team should be ready to go. We will see.

    • scorp16 - Aug 2, 2014 at 8:13 PM

You lost me after your first sentence. James, Irving, Love. If you’re counting on Verajao, Waiters, Thompson, Haywood, and Mike Miller (which is an 8 deep rotation right there). Sure, throw in Dellavedova andJames Jones as well. and there’s your 10 deep rotation. if you can’t see how flawed this team is after the first three players I listed…well…good luck then.

      • tcstunner - Aug 3, 2014 at 6:39 AM

LOL. Flawed after the 1st 3 players listed? The best player in the NBA, one of the top PF in the NBA and a top 10 or so PG in the NBA is flawed? Having 3 players who all play different positions and are one of the best at those positions, is a bad thing?

  11. seasickcecil - Aug 2, 2014 at 8:16 PM

Ah yes the Bulls. Rose looks like he’s back and Pau is there. Tibs is a good coach and the system is already in place. Problem is the Bulls never beat Lebron ever. And I’m not to big on Bucky Mcnuggets or that Euro leaguer they added. I guess we’ll see.

    • scorp16 - Aug 2, 2014 at 8:33 PM

Your relying on the fact that CLE beat CHI. In1 playoff series? Really? That’s your entire basis? The other times Lebron was with the HEAT. Your logic is seriously flawed.

      • antistratfordian - Aug 3, 2014 at 4:14 AM

LeBron owns the United Center. He owns Chicago, really. Even if Rose is “back” – LeBron has his number so you can eliminate him from any equation if they meet in the playoffs.

  12. seasickcecil - Aug 2, 2014 at 8:22 PM

Actually I love the first six players you mentioned. Delly and Miller will contribute. I still see David Griffin doing some tweaking before the season starts.

  13. seasickcecil - Aug 2, 2014 at 8:41 PM

The Bulls can’t beat any team Lebron is on regardless what team it is. And this is going to be the best Cleveland team Lebrons ever had so well see.

  14. rogerrodgers - Aug 2, 2014 at 8:51 PM

Don’t do it…Love is not worth that many picks.

  15. seasickcecil - Aug 2, 2014 at 9:04 PM

I agree wordy. They will have a new coaching staff and only 5 players from last years team. If Blatt is as good as the Cavs hope and chemistry develops as the year goes on they could be a power. We’ll see.

  16. bronx77 - Aug 2, 2014 at 9:19 PM

Cavs won’t win it next year. They will need to grow as a team like the heat did there first year. Everyone needs to learn how to gel around Lebron. Irving wants the ball just like wade wanted the ball. Until Irving shows he can play like robin and not try to be batman they won’t win it. If he adjusts his game well in year one then sure they have a shot. But basketball teams need a lot of chemistry to win it all. I would take OKC SA and CHI over them right now. If Kyrie gels well then they can bump past a couple of those teams.

    • antistratfordian - Aug 3, 2014 at 4:18 AM

The Heat issues had to do with Wade and LeBron trying to share Alpha status. There needs to be a clear hierarchy and the Heat didn’t have one. Another problem was that LeBron and Wade’s games overlapped too much. Those are not issues in Cleveland.

I expect the transition with this team to go a bit smoother as the parts fit together better.

      • mrhonorama - Aug 3, 2014 at 9:20 AM

But there is much less NBA experience, so you have a lot of players who still need to learn a lot more to win at the highest level. Moreover, the team will have an even weaker front line defensively than those Heat teams. Look how the Spurs dealt with the small ball Heat, who often had no rim protectors out there. The first edition of the Heatles was more of a ready made team than this Cavs team…on paper.

      • antistratfordian - Aug 3, 2014 at 4:49 PM

The last teammate LeBron had who made an All-Defensive team was Anderson Varejao in 2010.

Varejao is a better defender than any front line player the Heat had.

The first edition Heatles started Joel Anthony at C and Carlos Arroyo at PG, and used Erik Dampier extensively. Yikes. Mike Miller missed half of that season and Haslem basically missed all of it.

This Cavs team has better players than that.

  17. seasickcecil - Aug 2, 2014 at 10:43 PM

Wht are Andrews jersey discontinued? http://fansided.com/2014/08/02/kevin-love-trade-rumors-forward-traded-end-month/

  18. seasickcecil - Aug 3, 2014 at 12:24 AM

You can still get a t-shirt.

  19. thetooloftools - Aug 3, 2014 at 2:15 AM

Just another LeBron James power play. No wonder he didn’t mention him in his “I’m coming home” letter.
He is a threat to LeBrons spotlight.
Heck no I’m not giving the Wigster up.
    No way.
I would rather have him then Kevin Love’

    this is just stupid.

    • antistratfordian - Aug 3, 2014 at 4:20 AM

The Cavs never wanted Wiggins to begin with. They were leaning Embiid and when he went down they tried to trade the top pick for Love. They’ve been trying to trade for Love since last year, so it really has nothing to do with LeBron. James is just helping Cleveland get their wish.

  20. buffalo65 - Aug 3, 2014 at 3:10 PM

To say one if the best players of all time in his prime isn’t an advantage is just silly. Obviously you are just saying it because you’re not a fan, deep down you don’t even believe it.

  21. buffalo65 - Aug 3, 2014 at 3:10 PM

That said both Cleveland and Chicago will be watching Toronto in the finals.

  22. hoopfan71 - Aug 4, 2014 at 10:15 AM

It would be news if the Cavs and Wolves announced that no trade will be consummated.
