NBA considering charity All-Star game in South Africa

Jul 30, 2014, 12:30 AM EST

Blake Griffin, James Harden, Kawhi Leonard, Damian Lillard, Kyle Lowry, Terrence Ross, DeMar DeRozan, Tyson Chandler and Brandon Jennings wanted to participate in a basketball clinic in the Philippines, but the NBA kyboshed that plan.

But when the league wants players to play in an offseason All-Star game in a foreign country, the stance might be different.

Adam Silver has been a proponent of expanding the NBA worldwide, and this could further that objective – while potentially helping a good cause.

Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports:

The Collective Bargaining Agreement specifies rules for offseason charity games, including:

The game is played in the United States or Canada

The Players Association approves the game (which approval shall not be unreasonably withheld)

Despite the limiting the charity games to North America, these things can always be negotiated.

Sounds like a job for Michele Roberts.
