Klay Thompson doesn’t anticipate being traded, says he expects to play with Warriors next season

Klay Thompson didn’t want to be traded.

His father — Mychal Thompson, the former No. 1 pick and Showtime Laker who is now a Los Angeles radio host and Lakers radio broadcaster — said on his radio show several times this had not been easy for Klay because he didn’t want to be moved out of Golden State.

It doesn’t look like he is — the Warriors have refused to put him in a deal so far, and do not seem inclined to change their mind despite how much Minnesota has pushed. Thompson is happy with that and told Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports he looks forward to being back in Golden State next season.

Thompson said he “got that vibe” from new Warriors coach Steve Kerr that he wouldn’t be traded.

“We got a good core. I feel we have one of the better backcourts in the league,” Thompson, referring to his backcourt mate Stephen Curry, told Yahoo Sports on Sunday. “I feel like we have a team that can do big things. Health is going to be huge, but I feel like we can make big strides this year.

“The fact that I haven’t been traded yet makes me feel comfortable. That speaks for itself.”

At this point Minnesota is trying to finalize a deal with Cleveland based around Andrew Wiggins. It will be closer to the start of training camp (or later) before that deal likely comes together.

For the Warriors, they love Thompson’s shooting but more importantly they like Thompson’s defense next to Stephen Curry, he takes that pressure off Curry. Those two are a good fit next to each other, no doubt. It’s also not a surprise that two of the better shooting guards the game has ever seen — Jerry West and Steve Kerr – favor keeping the good shooting guard in house.

This year we’ll see if new coach Kerr can add a little motion and life to a Warriors offense that should have been better than it was the last couple years. Thompson will need to be a key part of that — and if he has a good year his price on his next deal just goes up (unless the sides reach a deal before Halloween. And that extra cash kicks in next summer.

Dont trade him, get a 4-6 seed, & get bounced in the 1st or 2nd round. After that sign him to a near max deal, take up valuable cap space, & continue in mediocrity.

MN has turned it’s attention away from GSW for their reluctance to include Klay. Thats fine as no one believes he is a max player in which he’ll be paid.

    Wiggins > Klay

Take wiggins and run Minnesota. Wiggins and Levine are going to be so disgustingly sick in 3 years.

Minnesota should take the Cavs deal. Wiggins will be a young Tracy mcgrady clone meanwhile Thompson will continue to be a one dimensional player going fwd.

Wow, kerr is one of the better shooting guards the league has ever SEEN? So let’s see there’s um, west mj kobe drexler wade um,um um kerr. Ok i got it now, whew. lol Also how does klay’s supposed great defense help curry cover his man?

Steve Kerr was a point guard. While poorly phrased, it looks like he was trying to say West and Kerr were two of the better guards at shooting. Considering Kerr is the all-time leader in three-point percentage, I’d say that’s an accurate statement.

Since when is 4-6 seed (in the Western Conference, mind you) mediocrity? Minnesota would give a left nut to be in the Warriors’ position. Isn’t that why they wouldn’t pull the trigger on a trade w/o him? Sleep on Klay because doesn’t dunk like Wiggins or is not max-worthy like Harden. But trust, any GM would cream in their Armani suits to have him on their roster.

One thing klay does like wiggins is shoot 43% from the field. Klay has a career per of 13.9 and 14.4 last year and the league average is 15per. I’m confused as to who all these players are that klay has shut down with his defense also? Word has it that he wants a max contract when the time comes also. Don’t get the hype for this guy. Still young and can improve but he is now 24 years old also.

You guys obviously don’t watch warrior games. Last I che k Klay Thompson played a huge roll in the warriors making playoffs, and klov, well he hasn’t made playoffs. Wiggins is probably going to be good, but Levine looked confused at ucla and aside from his freakish athleticism, he Dsnt do anything very well. Reminds me of Austin daye, with more hops. Stand pat wit curry and Thompson, and let kloves inflated stats go to Cleveland.
