Sneak peek at Lakers, Trail Blazers alternate uniforms

Jul 21, 2014, 2:11 PM EDT

ESPN’s Darren Rovell was on uni-watch on Monday, apparently, as he got a early sneak peak at a few alternate uniforms for next season — including the Lakers’ black “Hollywood Nights” one — and tweeted out some pictures.

Also, Rovell said that the Thunder have decided against wearing the gold band on the collar signifying a franchise that has won a title. (They could wear one because they own the rights to the Seattle Sonics records, but the franchise has wisely tried to create a new identity and distance itself from that part of its past.)

I didn’t realize sweaty deltoids were so important to your enjoyment of basketball.

They just look goofy. Like those awful vest jerseys in MLB.

these guys wear under armour compression shirts, shorts and sleeves, some guys wear full body suits and the get up looks like the sleeved shirts.

I hate these freaking sleeves. The experiment failed move on already. But they’ll probably keep them because more room for ads.

    • spursareold - Jul 21, 2014 at 2:44 PM

That’s EXACTLY why they’ll stay around.

When I was in high school, our crowd used to taunt players on the other team that wore t-shirts. “T-Shirt Players”

      • smoothaswilkes - Jul 21, 2014 at 9:46 PM

I remember when they started letting players wear t-shirts under their jerseys in HS too. I’d rather see that than this unitard shirt the NBA keeps pushing. I think I might start calling these sleeved uni’s “ad space”.

The league may be allowing more actual competition now that David Stern is “retired”, but the “let’s have 85 different ugly uniforms so we can sell more sh**” shtick lives on.

WOW ridiculous nba would even consider these things!! hideous

  7. cbrown386 - Jul 21, 2014 at 3:28 PM

First name only jerseys are quite possibly even worse than the nickname jerseys last season.

What makes the Miami Heat or LA Lakers think they’ll even be on tv during Christmas this year?

    • asimonetti88 - Jul 21, 2014 at 5:24 PM

I’m going to go out on a limb and guess they were told so by the league office

  9. gmsalpha - Jul 21, 2014 at 4:44 PM

I gotta say I love the designs.

I don’t love the sleeves, and that’s being generous. Okay, I hate the sleeves. Always have and always will.

I don’t buy jerseys, but I can see these being more for the fans than for use by actual NBA players.
