Glen Rice Jr. shows why he’s Summer League MVP candidate, beats buzzer to force 3OT (VIDEO)

Jul 20, 2014, 11:00 AM EDT

LAS VEGAS — Glen Rice Jr. is making a serious case for Summer League MVP.

The Wizards’ sharpshooter had 36 points and 11 boards on Saturday — including this dramatic buzzer beater to force triple overtime — to lead Washington to a 3OT win to advance to the semi-finals of the Las Vegas Summer League. He is averaging a Summer League high 25.2 points a game while shooting a nice 50.7 percent.

On this play Jamil Wilson dribbles (by design) into a tough position then whips a fantastic baseline pass to a surprisingly open Rice for the shot. That would be the Spurs first-round pick Kyle Anderson — who has had a nice Summer League and already plays a very Spurs-like game — who starts out on Rice on the weak side, ends up watching the ball a little then gets picked-off Rice (not a great pick, but enough) and letting a red-hot scorer get open. Kyle, you would not want to see Gregg Popovich’s reaction if that happened in an actual, meaningful game. Trust me.

If Rice and Porter can contribute anything to WAS going forward “watch out”…….

Glen Rice Jr. might be the sixth man of the year the way he’s playing

how high are you? seriously….get help….

      • lj312chicago - Jul 20, 2014 at 12:31 PM

your 6th year of the man candidate….twice went 0-2 from the line…..clutch son clutch

      • sire2334 - Jul 20, 2014 at 12:49 PM

Right…because the “6th man” is all about being clutch…Do I think He’ll be 6th man of the year….no. We first need to see if his game translates. (I think Porters’ game will translate better personally but that’s just me) then we have to see how many mins. he gets. But it has nothing to do with free which Im sure they’ll be working on over the summer.

Wizzard look to be bulding a really competitive and deep team. Frontcourt with Gortat, Nene, Humphries, Harington and Pierce. Depth and good leadership. Backcourt with Wall, Beal, and Rice could be one of the better backcourts in the East. looks like a good 10 deep rotation.

    • sonnysuave - Jul 20, 2014 at 12:26 PM

Uhm, you only named 8 guys. Don’t get me wrong… if they continue to build off last year’s momentum, they are force to be reckoned with. But not sure about 10 deep…

      • scorp16 - Jul 20, 2014 at 12:38 PM

Really? Just for you I’ll thrown in Andre Miller who played 14 mpg and shot 46% and Drew Gooden who played 18 mpg and averaged 8 Pts on 53% shooting. Look there’s your 10. Didnt think I had to name every player. No one is saying this is a team that will beat the Spurs but it is one of the deeper teams in the East.

        Not to mention Blair…

Who would the other summer league mvp candidates be?

    • sire2334 - Jul 20, 2014 at 12:45 PM

I was thinking the same thing…Maybe Hardaway but after the last game that should end that talk. I’m not even the biggest GR2 fan but dude is ballin.

WAS just might be the team to compete with my Cavs in the East. The rest of the teams will get rolled over.

  6. deezesoprano - Jul 20, 2014 at 4:46 PM

The bulls will get rolled over by the wiz or cavs?? You need help irking lmao Snell and mcdermott will be the bulls young guns and believe me they are ready……Tony snell on GR2 is like chris paul on cj watson…..hes gonna have a field day. Snell is kawhi leonard with more to his offensive game at the 2 lol And I’m only comparing young guns right now lol

    • scorp16 - Jul 20, 2014 at 5:45 PM

Snell is not Kawhi Leonard. Kawhi Leonard was the MVP of last years Finals. Toney Snell averages 4 pts a game.

    • 5xchamp24 - Jul 20, 2014 at 7:43 PM

Snell aint ready. He showed small glimpses of what he might be but he couldnt even get playing time over and old Dunleavy.

  7. scorp16 - Jul 20, 2014 at 5:49 PM

In concept I agree with you. Chicago is a better team than CLE or WASH. But let’s not go proclaiming Tony Snell as a future AllStar just yet.

  8. bigbenh8tr - Jul 20, 2014 at 11:14 PM

Wizards are easily top 2 in the east. Sorry bulls fans but Drose doesnt havr a career anymore. Snell is a poor mams Kawhi and not remotely close. Good luck w your power forwards bc that’s all you have.

  9. bigbenh8tr - Jul 20, 2014 at 11:15 PM

And by the way. 6th man isnt about clutch. JR Smith is not clutch
