Clippers re-sign Glen Davis to minimum contract

Glen Davis was both useful for the Clippers and a bit of a wreck in Los Angeles last season.

For most of the season, the Clippers lacked a sufficient backup to Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan, primarily relying on Ryan Hollins. So, in that sense, Davis – signed in February – bolstered the rotation.

But he didn’t move the Clippers forward all that much. They were outscored by 6.3 points per 100 possessions when he played, and Davis actually had a higher turnover percentage than usage percentage. He even once lost his cool with Doc Rivers.

Still, Davis opted out of the final year of his contract, which would have paid him the minimum salary. Maybe he could get more money or a larger role elsewhere – and if not, no harm, no foul.

Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times:

Davis will make $1,227,985 next season – $312,742 of which will be paid by the NBA.

That’s pretty good value for Davis, who might have been drawn back to the Clippers by his relationship with Rivers. Just 28, Davis might draw better offers after this short deal if he returns to form.

In the meantime, the Clippers will have a deeper big-man rotation than last season. And fortunately for them – after signing Spencer Hawes – they won’t need to rely on Davis quite so much.
