Report: Bucks shopping Ersan Ilyasova “hard”

Jul 14, 2014, 7:33 PM EDT

Ersan Ilyasova

The Bucks have a potentially interesting front line — Jabari Parker, John Henson, Larry Sanders, and some nice rotation guys behind that such as Zaza Pachulia.

Ersan Ilyasova is not part of those future plans. Last season, when healthy, he shot 28.2 percent from three, played little defense and was generally a mess. He battled foot and ankle issues almost all season.

The Bucks are ready to move on, reports Gery Woelfel of the Racine Journal Times.

The bigger problem might be it’s going to be hard to shop him.

Ilyasova makes $15.8 million guaranteed the next two seasons (there is a third season on his deal but with a cheap buyout). That’s a lot of money to take on for a guy who didn’t do squat last season. Teams aren’t just going to take him on, they are going to want a sweetener. Not sure the Bucks have one they are eager to give up.

Still, something to watch.

    to NY for Amare …

  2. deepfreezerob - Jul 14, 2014 at 8:07 PM

    To Det for J Smoove

    • theblackrook - Jul 14, 2014 at 8:45 PM

      HELL NO!

      • weaselpuppy - Jul 14, 2014 at 9:14 PM

Ideally SVG would want a expiring deal for JSmoove (like Nash or Bargs)….but if there are no takers, then this wouldn’t be out of the question…but Plan K for sure.

It’d be real easy to trade him, just gotta send Jabari along for the ride.

    • trevor123698 - Jul 14, 2014 at 9:21 PM

i hope they do. jabari is gonna blow and hes a freaking mormon fruitcake

      • handsomerob86 - Jul 14, 2014 at 11:02 PM

Man, I don’t agree with mormon teachings at all, but they are nice folks. I don’t think its a bad thing to called a mormon. I haven’t had one be rude to me yet. Sure they might believe that’s how they become a god, but that doesn’t make me want to hate them.

      • trevor123698 - Jul 14, 2014 at 11:16 PM

nice folks whose goal is to destroy american freedom. they are a satanic cult. these nice people you speak of are pawns for those at the top. they put on a front for a reason. I for one won’t be supporting my hometown team any longer. They had their chance to make a brilliant move and pick up favors and exum and send this freak to his mormon paradise but they missed it. hes gonna blow on the court. he cant and wont ever play quality D. and i bet he gets fat at some point. hes pretty wide already

    • handsomerob86 - Jul 14, 2014 at 11:04 PM

I would take him on the Magic for the low price of the Bucks unprotected first round pick this year… But Hennigan might actually trade a pick for him the way he has been with the Gordon and Frye signing.

  4. sumkat - Jul 14, 2014 at 8:34 PM

so they aren’t “shopping him hard” as much as they are “begging someone to take him”?

  5. shanelsweet - Jul 14, 2014 at 8:39 PM

Isn’t this when one of those nearly $10M is trade exceptions that the Wiz have might come in handy? Maybe not for this guy, but he’s not going to be the only NBA player looking for work in the next month or so. The Wiz need rim protectors, shooters and a decent backup PG (no disrespect to Andre Miller, but 38 just seems way old for a PG to make it 82 games plus the playoffs).

  6. ProBasketballPundit - Jul 14, 2014 at 8:44 PM

Ersan is the kind of guy you have to give up draft picks just to get rid of. Awful. Among the worst defenders in the NBA. He’ll be good if you get him in a contract year though.

    • theblackrook - Jul 14, 2014 at 8:50 PM

He had a down year, I don’t think he will be that hard to move. But I do agree using him and maybe Mayo to gain Amare’s expiring maybe to the bucks benefit. But if I’m trading with New York, I’m going after Hardaway and there’s maybe 6 guys on the team I wouldn’t’ trade to get him. Parker, Giannis, Henson, Knight and Wolters.

Yes I’d make a trade that sent Sanders and Ersan to New York for Hardaway and Amare. I’d make that trade and not look back.

  7. johnheisman - Jul 14, 2014 at 8:48 PM

    Throw in Jason Kidd.

    • bukes111 - Jul 14, 2014 at 9:09 PM

Hey a month ago he tried to trade Brook Lopez for him before he took the Buck’s job.

  8. madnova - Jul 14, 2014 at 8:51 PM

Isn’t it very possible a team might see last season as more of an aberration, a player playing bad in a bad situation? Considering how far off his shooting-especially 3-point shooting, fell off as compared to the previous two years, he seems like a pretty solid bounce back candidate.

    • money2long - Jul 14, 2014 at 11:38 PM

      Some reason and logic. Finally.

    • milkcan44 - Jul 15, 2014 at 2:04 PM

Totally agree. Yes they overpaid, but if Kidd knows how to use him right, he will be a valuable piece.

  9. rexgrossman8 - Jul 14, 2014 at 8:58 PM

Lakers, Rockets, maybe Bulls, maybe Heat.

  10. bukes111 - Jul 14, 2014 at 9:08 PM

Didn’t Kidd try to trade Brook Lopez for him before he took the Milwaukee job? LOL

    • madnova - Jul 14, 2014 at 9:32 PM

He would’ve had to have been successful in getting promoted above King for that to have happened.

      • Kevin S. - Jul 14, 2014 at 9:36 PM

Yes, but he did push the Nets to trade Teletovic and Lopez for Sanders and Ilyasova. It’s pretty sketchy.

  11. haaaaasoooooo - Jul 14, 2014 at 10:10 PM

Agree with @theblackrook except for Wolters. Dump him and get Jameer Nelson as the backup. But if we could get rid of Erysan and Sanders????? Hell yes! Throw in Mayo too!

  12. khmerson562 - Jul 14, 2014 at 10:34 PM

Erysan and 1st round to the lakers for Nash and his expire contract. Do it bucks I dare you.

  13. packfan0492 - Jul 14, 2014 at 11:38 PM

Send him and Kidd to Europe.

  14. jrob23 - Jul 15, 2014 at 3:07 AM

The dude was seriously hampered all season long. Let the kid get healthy and give him minutes and you will see just how good he is.

  15. campcouch - Jul 15, 2014 at 5:01 AM

Funny how the guy went from nice young prospect to garbage player after a draft. I know Ilyasova was being hyped to run with Giannis and Sanders, that’s why he got paid, so now that Parker is in the house this guy is expendable. I hope he does get traded and flourishes.

  16. cruzan80 - Jul 15, 2014 at 4:12 PM

This is exactly the kinda player who ends up on the Spurs then “suddenly” becomes awesome. The Bucks are loaded with talented players. The problem is they have absolutely no direction at all.
