Jason Kidd’s answer to ‘Why Milwaukee?’: ‘There’s no place I’d rather be.’

Jul 6, 2014, 8:30 PM EDT

Jason Kidd AP

Jason Kidd is the new head coach of the Bucks, after a move to gain more control in the Nets front office didn’t work out as expected.

The whole process went down about as unprofessionally as possible, with Milwaukee still having Larry Drew in place as head coach up until the very moment that the Kidd deal became official.

The team’s ownership regrets how things played out, and Kidd released a statement through the Bucks’ Twitter account claiming to be ready to move on in a positive direction.

This statement seems about as believable as the things Kidd said at his introductory press conference.

As long as the wins come under Kidd’s watch, the team and its fans won’t care about any of this. But it’s not a great way for a new ownership group to begin its NBA business, and Kidd’s been so disingenuous throughout it all that it makes the Bucks difficult to root for under the circumstances.

This is why I love Jason Kidd. He has so much character and integrity.

First they pimp out a daughter at the draft lottery then they screw their coach. Hedge fund billionaires huh? They certainly fit the stereotype.

    • antistratfordian - Jul 6, 2014 at 8:56 PM

That daughter is probably why Kidd is up there.

      • realfootballfan - Jul 7, 2014 at 1:12 AM

All jokes to the side, I can’t blame him for that one, lol.

  3. sportsfan18 - Jul 6, 2014 at 8:39 PM

    Mr. Kidd.

    That was not convincing…

Why didn’t you just say you like challenges… and money…

Or you could have said you accepted this job because you could no longer go back to the Nets…

Or you could have said that the Bucks next couple of seasons should be better than the Nets, especially beginning the season after this coming one from the Nets… and you knew the team would end up going backwards due to age, no draft picks and that the Russian would have blamed you and then fired you…

See, there are lots of truthful things you could have said…

    • milkcan44 - Jul 7, 2014 at 1:25 PM

Yes, the first point about “accepting challenges”, and then illustrating the potential and the intention to get the right pieces working together, would have been the most credible thing to say.
Fans can see what’s sincere, and what comes off as shallow.

I keep forgetting that this happened…then someone brings it up again.

    Jabari Parker

  6. bdachan12 - Jul 6, 2014 at 9:13 PM

Anyone believe Kidd wrote a single word of this?

  7. angulocarlos1 - Jul 6, 2014 at 9:16 PM

Jason Kidd over/under DUI set at .5 during his bucks coaching career in Vegas. Taking the over for easy money

Since they removed the feature, I’ll say it personally.

      THUMBS UP.

    • mogogo1 - Jul 7, 2014 at 1:43 PM

No such luck for Buck fans. He’s the new owners’ guy. He could totally stink the place up and last for several years as everybody else is blamed. Throw in the fact that they have enough talent to win some games and he’s bound to be there for a while barring some sort of total meltdown. Worst case scenario is they’ll be just good enough to keep Kidd employed but not good enough to actually win anything or resign anybody when the become free agents.

as a realist i must say that milwaukee fans are clearly experiencing delusions of grandeur anticipating a return of the lew alcindor-era….not gonna happen… love kidd…grew up watchin kidd but hea unproven as a coach and did a so-so job in brooklyn with vets who are competing for championships… now in milwaukee he has to develop young players and then 4 seasons from now compete for titles…however i dont see kidd staying there that long nor do i see jabari staying there…First off were not talkin about the New York Bucks or Los Angeles Bucks or Chicago Bucks…. were talkin about the MILWAUKEE Bucks… MILWAUKEE….dont nobody wanna play there…. theres a reason high profile free agents do not have Milwaukee on their list of teams…. kidd will be fired or contract not extended and jabari will leave as soon as he plays out his rookie deal…sorry milwaukee fans….realistically this is the way it probably plays out

    • bougin89 - Jul 7, 2014 at 11:41 AM

“as a realist i must say that milwaukee fans are clearly experiencing delusions of grandeur anticipating a return of the lew alcindor-era”

What? What Milwaukee fans have said we are returning to the Lew Alcindor era?

“kidd will be fired or contract not extended and jabari will leave as soon as he plays out his rookie deal”

This shows a true level of ignorance. If Jabari is good enough, if he is the real deal, he’ll be in Milwaukee for at least 8 years. That’s how this CBA is setup.

      Nice try?

    Quick question to everyone…

Why y’all hate Kidd so much?

    • ranfan12 - Jul 6, 2014 at 11:34 PM

probably the off court antics. haven’t heard much bad things about him nba wise besides the “Hit me” thing. that was hilarious

      • 00maltliquor - Jul 6, 2014 at 11:55 PM

What “hit me” thing? Is that related to the “french fries” incident?

    • bougin89 - Jul 7, 2014 at 11:44 AM

“hit me” thing is the spilling of the drink on the court last year coaching the Nets. I think Kidd is a better coach than Larry Drew(that’s not saying much) but I question the hiring of Kidd because of his off the court issues and this being such a young team. I’m not sure Kidd is the type of man that I want to try to “straighten out” Larry Sanders…

      That’s just my opinion though.

I understand the skepticism but give the guy a chance already.

    • titansbro - Jul 7, 2014 at 10:10 AM

      he’s had chances

      • terremotinho - Jul 7, 2014 at 10:57 AM

        I mean a sober one.

  15. lakerade - Jul 7, 2014 at 1:00 AM

Hurry up and make a mess of it, Kidd, so the Lakers can poach players sooner. Actually, no rush. All in due time.

  16. realfootballfan - Jul 7, 2014 at 1:11 AM

He was probably sauced up when he was lying to the Buck fans like that. He’s there because they gave him the money the Nets laughed at him on and punted him away for even asking for.
