Report: Jason Kidd to get what he wanted a $4 million or more a year payday

Jun 30, 2014, 5:45 PM EDT

Jason Kidd AP

Pay theat man his money.

I have been plenty critical of Jason Kidd’s power play with the Nets that has him moving to Milwaukee for a couple of draft picks, but if getting Derek Fisher/Steve Kerr money was part of motivation than mission accomplished.

Howard Beck of Bleacher Report has the details.

Yet, anyway.

Good for Kidd, can’t begrudge a guy getting what he can get. Plus there is a potential win for the Bucks — he is a star name in a market where it can be hard to get star names. Not sure if he can really recruit guys but it doesn’t hurt and it gives the marketing department another name to put on billboards.

But as I’ve said — now he has to prove he can really coach. Not just guide veterans (although it took a while for him to do that well) but develop guys such as Jabari Parker, John Henson, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Larry Sanders. He’s got to hone their skills and put them in systems where they are primed to succeed. It’s very different from the job in free-spending Brooklyn.

Blow this one and Kidd will have a hard time finding another gig after the way he left Brooklyn.

Kidd/Sanders should be fun to watch implode.

    • milimpilim - Jun 30, 2014 at 6:04 PM

Agree. This is not a good example of professionalism for that young roster. Culture is crucial to build a winning organization.

      • eugenesaxe1 - Jun 30, 2014 at 6:15 PM

I want to know how this all got started. Maybe I missed it, but I heard nothing of MIL asking to speak to Kidd. And if they did so w/o permission, isn’t that a bad thing?

      • geejon - Jun 30, 2014 at 7:07 PM

I feel sorry for Greek and Jabari. Two young kids who are supposed to “learn” under this jerk. He’s a nasty person (check his loooong history) and will screw everyone and anyone if it’ll make him a penny more or make him feel better.

    “Pay theat man his money.”

Wow, typo on the 2nd word. That’s early even for this blog.

    • Kevin S. - Jun 30, 2014 at 6:04 PM

Do yourself a favor and watch Rounders.

      • Tribe&Browns&Cavs - Jun 30, 2014 at 7:06 PM

I have the DVD. I watched the clip thrice. The accent on “that” isn’t that pronounced.

      • geejon - Jun 30, 2014 at 7:09 PM

It’s actually a horrible Russian accent by Malkovich lol but thanx for giving me a chuckle with that post.

      • chiadam - Jun 30, 2014 at 8:45 PM

And you find a way to explain “…than mission accomplished”.

    • terremotinho - Jun 30, 2014 at 7:36 PM

      Next paragraph:

“But if getting Derek Fisher/Steve Kerr money was part of motivation than mission accomplished.”

Should be “part of HIS motivation, THEN mission accomplished.”

Tribe&Browns&Cavs is the Gretchen Mol of this thread.

How are you going to misspell the SECOND word of the article? I guess it’s a reflection of how little effort is put into these alleged news articles. Quality control anyone?

    • jeffkx - Jun 30, 2014 at 6:04 PM

      He’s an awful writer…

    • asimonetti88 - Jun 30, 2014 at 8:34 PM

Rounders is a great movie, check it out sometime.

  4. csbanter - Jun 30, 2014 at 6:05 PM

“Pay theat man his money.” That in a nutshell sums up this article.

  5. clevelandrox - Jun 30, 2014 at 6:06 PM

should’ve just said: PAY THAT MAN! PAY THAT MAN!

  6. Kevin S. - Jun 30, 2014 at 6:10 PM

Seriously PBT? You’re eating my comments when I’m the only one who got your reference at the top of the post even though you linked to the clip?

  7. fm31970 - Jun 30, 2014 at 6:16 PM

Wow. Horrible day for Bucks fans. Herb Kohl must be shaking his head right about now…

    • sdeberg - Jul 1, 2014 at 8:17 PM

      I know I am.

  8. jacobk621 - Jun 30, 2014 at 6:29 PM

“Pay theat man his money” Are you referencing the movie “Rounders” ,,, Ed Norton was great in that flick !!

  9. mogogo1 - Jun 30, 2014 at 6:48 PM

You got a guy with one year’s experience who lost his last job after totally misreading his standing with the club and an owner who thinks that the best coaching candidate just happened to be somebody he used to help with investments. What could go wrong with that picture?

  10. haaaaasoooooo - Jun 30, 2014 at 7:33 PM

    You moust be keeking yurself….

  11. haaaaasoooooo - Jun 30, 2014 at 7:34 PM

Now I’m right back to where I started, with three stacks of high society.

  12. haaaaasoooooo - Jun 30, 2014 at 7:35 PM

Who bought up all your debt? GRAMA!!!!

  13. SBoy - Jun 30, 2014 at 7:37 PM

I’ll say one thing, at least now there is a team in the league I am going to root for the Miami Heat to beat…

  14. terremotinho - Jun 30, 2014 at 7:39 PM

Man the Bucks started their first two stellar decades with two great coaches, and have had umpteen since. No stability.

  15. haaaaasoooooo - Jun 30, 2014 at 7:39 PM

And the juice is still running, mike!

  16. csbanter - Jun 30, 2014 at 7:40 PM

Jason Kidd is the first coach in NBA history to get a raise and blacklist himself in the same week. Even Isiah Thomas couldn’t top this.

  17. haaaaasoooooo - Jun 30, 2014 at 7:42 PM

As they say in Milwaukee, winning cures all ills. If Ason Kidd takes the bucks to the playoffs, all wrongs will be forgiven. And consequently blamed on Lebron.

  18. djshnooks - Jun 30, 2014 at 7:42 PM

Only five words in the first sentence of an article, and you can’t spell them correctly?

    Theat is crazy, man.

  19. mnsadsportsfan - Jun 30, 2014 at 8:09 PM

    I cant stand Jason Kidd!

  20. jacobk621 - Jun 30, 2014 at 8:25 PM

KGB bought out his contract from Grama !!

    • weaselpuppy - Jul 1, 2014 at 12:10 AM

      Kidd just left KGB….

  21. jolink653 - Jul 1, 2014 at 2:06 AM

The line is from Rounders dammit. Do yourselves a favor and watch the movie and stop trolling for grammatical errors to point out

  22. coffeeblack95616 - Jul 1, 2014 at 1:39 PM

If that spelling was a phonetic version of the quote from “Rounders”, then add quotes! This blog has so many typos and misspelled words on a regular basis that the writer needs to use quotes (or explain the reference other than linking the words to the scene). And “theat” would be seem to sound like “theet” anyhow.
