PBT Podcast: Talking LeBron, ‘Melo and NBA free agency, plus some draft

The NBA’s summer season — free agency — is upon us and we delve into that in the latest edition of the PBT podcast with myself and Eytan Shander of NBC Sports Radio.

LeBron James and Dwyane Wade have opted out and Chris Bosh is soon to follow suit in Miami — this was not a shock. And they were never likely to leave, now it’s just a matter of figuring out how to divide up the free cap space and give Pat Riley room to work.

That moves Carmelo Anthony to the top of the free agent foot chain, but who else is out there of interest? Both for the Heat as they go after free agents and for everyone else?

We also look back at the NBA Draft and talk about the winners and losers. (Note: This podcast was taped before the Jason Kidd story broke.)

I love free agency, but hate it at the same time. RUMORS, RUMORS &MORE RUMORS.

BELIEVE IT WHEN I SEE IT!

Free agency is a chance for a player to maximize their earning potential, but the Heat seem to think that players will take less just to play with LeBron, who by the way makes more than most of these guys off the court. It will be very interesting to see how this plays out.

Bosh, wade, mike miller, and Ray Allen all took less money to play with Lebron. Miami will continue to be appealing to veteran players who want a chance to win a championship. What they have now that they didn’t last year is the ability to pay one or 2 above average players 5-7 mil a year like they did mike miller.

Who would come to Miami for less money? Anyone that is considered a star, yet has not made it to the Finals.
