Report: Nuggets offer Faried, Chandler and to acquire Afflalo to trade for Kevin Love

Jun 19, 2014, 12:58 AM EST

Kevin Love Kevin Love

We told you earlier today that Denver was in on the bidding for Kevin Love, a surprise new entrant in the bidding mix with Golden State, Chicago, Boston and likely a few others. The more interesting part is that the Timberwolves were looking for players, not just picks.

What players would Denver offer?

A couple of their own players and one belonging to the Orlando Magic, according to Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald.

Kenneth Faried makes sense in this deal, he is a quality young player but one Denver has been hesitant to give a large new contract to. Wilson Chandler… balances out salary and is a solid role player.

But making a trade to acquire Arron Afflalo is a new twist. Afflalo is a quality two guard who shot 42.7 percent from three last season, can put the ball on the floor and create, and is still a quality defender. He led the Magic in scoring last year but what he really needs to be is not a No. 1 option but a second or third option on a very good team. I can get why the Timberwolves would want him, he would fit well next to Ricky Rubio in the backcourt.

Still, Love has not said he would re-sign or even opt in for the Nuggets, they would be taking a risk.

Which is why someone may leak them as more as leverage than as them actually being in the mix.

There are a lot of rumors floating around, from ridiculous Cleveland rumors (sorry, I just do not buy them, don’t match what I hear) to just about countless others.

Between now and the draft in just more than a week a lot more rumors are coming and a lot more changes in that order (if that is even accurate). It’s going to be a wild week (and at the end of it the Timberwolves could decide to hold off and make the trade later this summer if they don’t).

    Not good enough, Flip.

So they’d trade Love to be stuck in the borderline playoff team spot they’re already in? And Denver would do it knowing they’re far from likely to resign Love? Never happening.

  3. crillbill - Jun 19, 2014 at 1:23 AM

Sounds like he’s still going to the Lakers

    • TheMorningStar - Jun 19, 2014 at 2:31 PM

Please explain how LA can possibly obtain Love. There roster is comprised of garbage and (a rapidly declining Bryant).

      Please, come re-join reality.

      • isaiah007 - Jun 19, 2014 at 6:19 PM

He is talking next year. MorningStar, next year!! You are right, the Lakers have nothing to trade for Love, and they aren’t even trying. But if he makes it to Free Agency, no matter what reports are out their, Kevin Love would sign with the Lakers… And they know it, and I believe the rest of the league knows it. Now what’s out of their control is if a team trades for him this year that he likes (GS, Chicago) then he reups with them and never makes it to Free Agency. But if Denver or earlier reports of Sacramento trades for him, then he is gone.

Will wait until June 26 for the real action to start
Till that time, the rumors are…rumors.

  5. gameisours - Jun 19, 2014 at 4:07 AM

Faried averaged 20 and 10 in the last month or so, plus he plays defense, so there’s place to grow. He may not shoot threes, but I’m just not so sold on Love..

    • amlowlife - Jun 19, 2014 at 11:02 AM

“…plus he plays defense…” Hmmm…Well, Faried is a good shot blocker but his defense is lacking. He goes for the block so often that he messes up team defense all the time. He puts out lots of effort so maybe that can change but his overall D is suspect.

Exactly with what trading pieces do they have to acquire Afflalo. His stock couldn’t be higher right now. He had a great year(depending if you look strictly at his numbers or his PER). I find it funny it shows no mention of how to get that done, the Magic biggest trading piece and they have no reason to let him go for cheap, whether they want to develop Olidapo or not. Afflalo will be traded by mid season so they really can develop Olidapo, there’s just no emergency for it now.

lakers will try to make a push to get klove. go Bruins!

  8. tomtravis76 - Jun 19, 2014 at 9:52 AM

Not a good move Tim Connelly, Love wants to compete in a perceived major market.

  9. saint1997 - Jun 19, 2014 at 10:02 AM

SO excited for draft night!! (Technically draft day in Australia)

  10. norcalsportsknowledge - Jun 19, 2014 at 12:11 PM

The talk about David Lee for Affalo and a first rd pick makes a lot of sense if the Dubs could package them w/Harrison Barnes, Speights and another 1st rd future pick. Dubs might have to take a player w/bad contract with Love to sweeten deal. Affalo needs to be moved so Victor can get more time there and Lee would give them good veteran leadership.

  11. JT - Jun 19, 2014 at 12:17 PM

Teams are trying to make it happen for Love, I wouldn’t. Do it without him signing an extension. I also wouldn’t keep the cupboard bare for Love

  12. themagicfanguy - Jun 19, 2014 at 12:22 PM

@norcal there’s zero chance that Orlando gives up a talented player and a draft pick(they covet picks and youth right now) for a talented player that is paid even more than Afflalo. Zero chance.
Maybe if Golden State threw in another player like Green or another pick, but even that’s a stretch.

  13. themagicfanguy - Jun 19, 2014 at 12:24 PM

I mean really, the homer biased trade suggestions need to stop. An overpaid yet talented Lee for an underpaid yet just as talented Afflalo AND a 1st round pick? Ridiculous.

    • lbeezyse - Jun 19, 2014 at 3:54 PM

Like. I wish I could double like that comment. Just like Lee, some scrub, and a 1st for Love I’ve seen floated about. Over valuation at it’s finest.

  14. norcalsportsknowledge - Jun 19, 2014 at 1:09 PM

Why do a 1/3 of my comments never post or take forever to post? Getting tired of it!

  15. norcalsportsknowledge - Jun 19, 2014 at 1:10 PM

Of course that one goes through!

  16. norcalsportsknowledge - Jun 19, 2014 at 1:21 PM

Affalo had a good year on a bad team. Lee is the better player. Has had a better career and will be the better player the next 2yrs. Affalo is blocking the spot of your lottery pick from last yr. Orlando will draft PG with first pick. That leaves them needing PF in a weak PF draft and they need his veteran leadership. Orlando is getting Lee type players coming there through free agency either.

  17. norcalsportsknowledge - Jun 19, 2014 at 1:23 PM

So frustrating!! Going to different site!

  18. norcalsportsknowledge - Jun 19, 2014 at 1:24 PM

    Isn’t

  19. themagicfanguy - Jun 19, 2014 at 2:47 PM

Oh and Orlando could easily draft a cheaper PF with more potential than Lee, or just stand Pat with O’Quinn, Harris, and Nicholson to see if they continue to develop.

  20. themagicfanguy - Jun 19, 2014 at 6:05 PM

Don’t act like you know anything about the Magic please, you don’t. You don’t watch any of their games, so how would you know if they need a leader? Nelson and Afflalo have already done a great job bonding with the young players and leading the team. The Magic wouldn’t make your trade in a million years, plain and simple.

  21. 1509lucky - Jun 19, 2014 at 10:43 PM

Seriously? That offer is TRASH! Why would Minnesota even answer the phone for THAT offer?
