Smush Parker: Kobe Bryant refused to talk to me during Lakers practices

Kobe Bryant has never been kind to Smush Parker.

So, this shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Parker, speaking to Dan Le Batard and Bomani Jones on ESPN’s Highly Questionable, talked about his experience playing for Kobe Bryant’s Lakers:

Parker:

He told me one day at practice – I tried to talk to him outside of basketball, about football. And he looked at me in practice and was dead serious and said, ‘You can’t talk to me. You need more accolades under your belt before you come talk to me.’

What a ridiculous way to treat someone.

Worse, Kobe hasn’t stopped demeaning his teammates this way.

Michael Jordan famously demanded excellence from his teammates by being a jerk to them until they reached his competitive level. It mostly worked, and the players who couldn’t handle it were weeded out of Chicago. I’m sure Kobe, to some degree, was trying to do the same with Parker.

But now that Kobe can barely get on the court, his act wears thin more quickly.

Parker had no choice but to take the scorn. It was Kobe’s team, and not only did everyone know it, Kobe earned that distinction by outworking and out-producing everyone on the court.

Unless Kobe regains his form, he better cut out this junk. His teammates won’t respond to it forever.

Smush spoke of this incident quite a few years ago. I read about it on this very site.
Here we are, years later. Smush is completely irrelevant, and Kobe’s working his way there.
If you’re going to use the time machine, go back and tell McDonald’s “Don’t change how you cook your fries”. Something useful.

Yeah Kobe, cut that junk out. Or I’ll tell mom. And she’s get call dad and you are gonna be in BIGGGGGGG trouble!

Kobe is a self centered piece of crap.WHY would anyone expect anything less from him?

It is possible to like a player, root for him and still realize that he’s a royal pain in the behind, not a nice guy, a jerk etc…

    Life is complicated.

Is Kobe a great player? Yes

Does he have an ego, a high opinion of himself? Yes

I have no doubt he may be mean and not nice to others…

Why do fans of stars think they can do NO wrong?

They are human beings. Kobe is an ENTERTAINER.

If you need a good attorney and find one, you care that he is a good attorney, NOT that he is nice…

    Get over it Kobe lovers… he’s a jerk… AND a great player…

Root for him all you like but don’t think he’s holier than thou…

smush parker? didn’t remember he was with the lakers…anyways. kobe is like god of basketball. you have to be at least average to be worthy to play with him and talk to him. i don’t think parker was even average. so yeah…kobe is like way up there.

I hope Kobe, that self centered piece of crap, breaks that leg again on the first day back,so that we don’t have to hear or see that moron ever again

        Where’s the effort man. 0/10

Kobe probably talked to him the whole week when he got that clutch steal on nash and gave the ball to kobe to win the game

I wonder how great Kobe would have been if Charlotte had decided not to trade him for Vlade. Remove Shaq,Gasol,Metta even Glen Rice and picture the Lakers fortunes even with Kobe. I enjoyed his game and he is/was a remarkable talent, but sometimes guys don’t realize their fortune, especially if it’s determined by pen strokes of someone else. Now he’ll fade away and be remembered by the next group as a guy who played before LeBron James. Welcome to the NBA Jams highlight reel Black Mamba!

If this was LeBron James who states he wanted to leave the Lakers not to long a ago, mocked Smush, and told Pau to put on your big boy pants, man the comments will be flooded with non-sense, but since its Kobe its OK!
