There’s nothing to hold Tony Parker back for now.
This is the NBA Finals and he will be ready to rock Thursday night when he and his San Antonio Spurs tip off against the Miami Heat in a rematch of last year’s epic Finals. He confirmed that at his media availability on Wednesday.
Parker has a sprained ankle — first tweaked way back in the first round against Dallas, really sprained in Game 4 against the Thunder in the Western Conference Finals, then aggravated in Game 5. Gregg Popovich sat him down the second half of Game 6, but the Spurs came from behind to win anyway.
In his press conference Wednesday Parker talked about how his body has not had any time off in years and he is used to playing through these kinds of injuries. (With the World Cup this year in Spain, he’s not getting any time off this summer either.)
If Parker is less than 90 percent, if he can’t get into the lane and make things difficult for the Heat defense, if he can’t drive at Chris Bosh and expose him on that end of the floor, the Spurs are without a key weapon and that would tip the balance in a tight series. San Antonio needs the full Parker effect.
