Thursday And-1 Links: Charles Barkley, some San Antonio fans at it again

2013 NBA Finals - Game Three 2013 NBA Finals - Game Three

Here is our regular look around the NBA — links to stories worth reading and notes to check out (stuff that did not get its own post here at PBT) — done in bullet point form. Because bloggers love bullet points.

• Charles Barkley is having a ridiculous round of insults with San Antonio fans. Barkley was being Barkley and said, “There’s some big ‘ol women down there… That’s a gold mine for Weight Watchers.” He said he was joking around, some fans are heckling him, and the entire thing has the maturity of a Jerry Springer show. Follow those links if you really care and want to read more.

• Interim Clippers CEO Dick Parsons said he played college basketball at Hawaii… except he didn’t. I’m not sure why this matters any more than what Barkley says about the fine people of San Antonio.

• Golden State’s front office is confident they have the pieces to make a Kevin Love trade. If I’m Minnesota I start with David Lee and Klay Thompson for Love and Alexey Shved.

Al Horford will not play for the Dominican Republic this summer as he continues to recover from a torn pectoral muscle. However, he should be good to go for Hawks training camp next fall.

• I’m pretty sure Horford couldn’t pull of this backflip off the backboard dunk.

• Former NBA player Casey Jacobsen has retired. He had been playing in Europe the past several years.

• The NBA talks a good game about being environmentally friendly, but it’s carbon footprint is massive.

• This is a little bit old and you need to pay for ESPN Insider, but this is a fascinating look at how the Sports VU cameras in arenas and a company called Catapult that tracks player movements at practices are teaming up to provide teams some interesting data.

• Also a little older, and about a baseball wife, but this look at the life of a professional sports wife is interesting.

• Kevin Johnson is representing the NBA players union in the Donald Sterling fiasco, but Johnson’s background is not exactly squeaky clean.

• Finally, somebody got an impressive and rather large Kobe Bryant tattoo.

Whoa. That Kobe tattoo is incredibly well done.

The tattoo effectively captures the look of disgust Kobe would give if he ever ran into this dude.

  3. packhawk04 - May 22, 2014 at 6:26 PM

Really nice tatoo of kobe… extreme waste of money and a source of serious regret in 18 months, but gotta give the tattoo guy credit. He did a good job.

Kevin Johnson makes Sterling look like a saint. How can the commissioner allow him to be involved in anything at all nba related, let alone the punishment of someone for moral issues?

    • therealhtj - May 22, 2014 at 6:37 PM

      Guess R. Kelly was busy.

      • the1nonlyk - May 22, 2014 at 6:53 PM

ha ha or still trapped in the closet peeing on underage women

  5. the1nonlyk - May 22, 2014 at 6:52 PM

Barkley is such a deuche but that comes as no surprise. He doesnt seem to know a lot about basketball anymore tho since his predictions are always wrong. i guess they keep him around for comedic effect but instead he just ends up making himself look worse and everyone else on the panel better. i mean wow shaq is soundig a lot smarter these days and thats something i never thought id say

    • campcouch - May 22, 2014 at 7:35 PM

Barkley is pretty knowledgeable concerning basketball. He doesn’t take the NBA seriously at all,but if you watch him during the NCAA tournament,he’s actually well spoken and thoughtful about it.

      • the1nonlyk - May 22, 2014 at 11:22 PM

well then he shouldnt b on a panel talkin about the nba if hes just gonna act stupid

  6. azarkhan - May 22, 2014 at 6:53 PM

Charles Barkley is a good man and I wish San Antonio fans would cut him some slack. Instead of getting angry over his harmless jokes perhaps they can focus on the good things he does, like visiting wounded soldiers at the Brooke Army Medical Center.

    • the1nonlyk - May 22, 2014 at 11:24 PM

uh yeah he prolly spends way more time and money on hos and gambling so sorry spokesperson im not impressed

      • azarkhan - May 23, 2014 at 9:45 AM

Who cares if you’re impressed? LOL

    • spursareold - May 23, 2014 at 8:37 AM

You realize that visit happened AFTER his remarks, right? I’d call it damage control.

      • azarkhan - May 23, 2014 at 9:36 AM

He did the same thing last year during the playoffs. It’s not “damage control”, it’s who he is.

      • mikerome64 - May 24, 2014 at 1:58 AM

Damage control? He could care less what the people of San Antonio or anywhere else thinks of him. He has been talking about for years about how fat the women are and that Riverwalk is nothing more than a creek. Get over it. Anybody with a half of a brain knows that he is joking. Hell he is fat himself.

Barkley like Skip are media trolls. They are there to be controversial and it works for them.

  8. zerole00 - May 23, 2014 at 9:45 AM

I’ll never understand why people feel the need to get an image of someone THEY DO NOT PERSONALLY KNOW onto their body.
