Check out fantastic Spurs highlight video (feels like Game 2 highlight reel)

May 21, 2014, 11:19 PM EDT

No, this is not a highlight video of the Spurs Game 2 rout of the Thunder. It just feels like it.

We often give lip service to the “you have to appreciate how the Spurs play the game” idea but it doesn’t resonate with a lot of fans. The simple fact is two crisp passes that become an open lay-up doesn’t have the drama of a contested dunk, or a fade-away three with a hand in your face — make no mistake, the lay-up is by far the better basketball play, but it’s not the dramatic one. We are drawn to drama. We are drawn to the exciting finisher at the rim and not the player who can alter or change those shots, even though the latter is of equal value.

The Spurs are the art of basketball. When the Spurs play it, basketball is the beautiful game. This video helps show that.

Embrace it. There’s a long way to go but right now they look like your next NBA champions.

      I got goosebumps just now.

Honestly, that ball movement was beautiful. I much prefer the fluidity of it over a dunk or circus shot.

Why doesn’t the video show how the Spurs’ season ended last year?

    • urodaddy07 - May 22, 2014 at 1:02 AM

Yeah they went to the NBA finals and lost. No shame in that. Only 2 teams can make it that far. And you know what, I think they lost because they didn’t share the ball at those critical times in some of those games. But that is the nature of competitive sport. What this team has accomplished is historic.

        u go daddy!

also, even if miami wins again this year, theyll NEVER be considered as good a team as the spurs PERIOD. if you dont agree, you’re in denial.

      • zerole00 - May 22, 2014 at 2:11 PM

Anyone who even tries to compareMiami’s success over the last 3-4 years with SA’s sustained success over the last (almost 2 decades) is an absolute idiot.

  6. eugenesaxe1 - May 22, 2014 at 12:22 AM

As a Blazers fan, I now feel much better about SA stomping the tar out of us. These guys are good.

I think the two scariest parts of the Spurs are:

      1) how long they’ve been good
      2) the fact that they can REMAIN good with their drafting (with what amounts to highway theft)
      3) the fact that their players have enough team mentality to take a pay cut with necessary

Then it just goes back to 1 and the cycle continues. That’s terrifying to compete against.

  7. savvybynature - May 22, 2014 at 12:33 AM

They don’t play for attention or fame, they play to win and for each other. You don’t have to love it, but you have to respect it.
I wouldn’t go so far as to crown them champions yet, there is still a ton of ball and a certain Vegas-favorite in Miami left, but I’ll certainly be rooting for them.

Spurs are looking very good right now, and it was sure fun to watch OKC get clobbered.

    • the1nonlyk - May 22, 2014 at 12:58 AM

hell yeah it was! now lets take this show on the road cuz u havent won anything till you clobber them on their own court so lets go big n then go home to rest for the finals. go spurs go!

  9. urodaddy07 - May 22, 2014 at 12:57 AM

A thing of beauty. Sharing the ball and sharing the glory.

    • the1nonlyk - May 22, 2014 at 1:03 AM

ive loved watching them play all of these years. they are the ultimate sportsmanship team with every teammate doing what they do for the love of basketball and the respect they have for each other and with one of the best coaches ever such a unique organization

when i was a kid, i hated the spurs. as an old man (duncans age), you realize you cant hate great.

    MUCH respect for the spurs.

A tremendous tribute to a great basketball team. When the San Antonio Spurs play basketball, it becomes “the beautiful game”.
