Clippers fans throw drinks at referee

May 16, 2014, 10:33 AM EDT

This is funny:

This is not:

That came late in the fourth quarter of the Clippers’ elimination loss to the Thunder last night. Chris Paul (questionably) and Blake Griffin (clearly) committed offensive fouls on back-to-back possessions, and the boos rained down.

So did a couple drinks.

Two fans don’t represent a fan base, but when this happens in certain markets – ahem, Detroit – it gets blown up into something big. And that was true even before the Malice at The Palace. In Los Angeles, though, it gets glossed over.

There are idiot fans everywhere. Hopefully a couple fewer at the Staples Center in the future.

Clippers fans seem to have a strange sense of entitlement for a franchise that has never made it past the second round

FOR REAL!! They’ve been good for like what, 2 years now and they’re some of the biggest loud mouth, annoying fans on the planet. It’s crazy.

    • hannsta - May 16, 2014 at 11:53 AM

Surprise? Its just Laker fans in a new uniform for a couple years.

      • asimonetti88 - May 16, 2014 at 12:02 PM

No, it’s a bunch of hipsters. Soon they’ll think too many people like the the Clippers and move on to something else. Like smoking cigarettes outside coffee shops

      • kb2408 - May 16, 2014 at 12:29 PM

No, no, no!! A “true” LAKERS fan would never cross over to the Clippers just because the LAKERS are down. We know the LAKERS will be back on top. You’re either one or the other, NEVER both. If you root for both you’re a fan of neither!!

      • romestar82 - May 16, 2014 at 1:16 PM

shut up clown ,i Lakers for life but I’m not going to be a hater and not root for little brother ,they were robbed but again it’s ok to root for little brother when big brother is on vacation

      • asimonetti88 - May 16, 2014 at 1:48 PM

No way! Would never root for the Clippers. Just like I wouldn’t root for the Kings or Dodgers. Lakers are my team, LA’s team, always have been always will be! Stick with your team no matter what…

You mean a “true” Lakers fan like Jack Nicholson, and Magic.

        No need to answer.

Its def trashy but at the same time they were robbed in game 6. I know i would never throw something but I wouldn’t think the worst of someone who did. These refs suck and I am a firm believer in people being told they suck when they mess up. If it was often at all fine but its all the time.

    • spursareold - May 16, 2014 at 11:20 AM

People have an innate sense of injustice.

Those refs are just lucky they don’t work in Europe. Those people don’t play. It wouldn’t have been a harmless cool drink, it would have been coins heated with lighters or lit cigarettes.

  3. jerdogthompson - May 16, 2014 at 11:22 AM

The charge against Paul was questionable????? NC tried to saddle him up and ride him and that’s questionable???? The replay shows KD moving his feet period. The clippers didn’t make plays down the stretch. Yes they did only problem is the refs negated them which made for HUGE momentum swings in favor of OKC.

    REFS>any team in the NBA

It’s tough enough to beat OKC but when it’s 5 on 8 no team stands a chance. I hope OKC enjoys their series win that will forever contain an asterisk next to it. I also hope they enjoy being emasculated, eviscerated and annihilated by the Spurs.

I heard Doc Rivers won his fantasy basketball league championship though. Maybe he can cover up the Lakers’ banners with a banner for that.

pretty hard to advance when the referees rob you of a win… doubt this series should be going 7…don’t blame clip fans for the hate

Thought the NBA’s OKC love would subside when Stern retired, but evidently he left that instruction in the Commissioner Manual he left for Silver.

Jerdogthompson is still coping with his bad basketball team. Keep trusting in Doc.

    • 00maltliquor - May 16, 2014 at 11:40 AM

For now he’s gonna have to keep trusting in Donald. We’ll see if he’s even still a fan once next season rolls around, Donald Sterling is still owner and the rest of the team leaves/refuses to play.

if the sixers didn’t suck hard, and this heppened in Philly, we’d still be hearing about it 50 years from now

  8. jsala02 - May 16, 2014 at 12:05 PM

    See ya LA Floppers

  9. bigdaddy44 - May 16, 2014 at 2:55 PM

As I have said before, NBA officiating is basically a tool of the league, just like the scripted WWE. As far as the league is concerned, the Clippers and their current controversies need to be pushed out of the spotlight. League marketing strategy also demands mega promotion of KD, the next great revenue generator. No different than Kobe or Lebron, it’s all about the money.

    Clippers who? Lakers all day!!

You would never see a hockey fan waste a good beer on a ref.
