Miami’s 1:40 possession that sealed the game in fourth quarter (VIDEO)

May 9, 2014, 8:45 AM EDT

Brooklyn had hung close all game, led for stretches and stayed within striking distance for the rest, until an 8-0 Miami run in the fourth gave them a cushion. Still the Nets were right there if they could just make some plays…

Then this possession happened.

When LeBron James missed from the right side Ray Allen was there to grab the offensive rebound, giving Miami a fresh 24. When LeBron missed again Dwyane Wade tapped it out top and the Heat reset again. LeBron missed a driving layup from the top of the key, but Chris Bosh got the board and passed out top and Miami ran other play for 24 seconds. This time Wade found LeBron, who had dove to the rim, got him the rock and LeBron hit the layup.

The lead was 10 and Miami had just taken 1:40 off the clock. It wasn’t a conventional dagger, but it was a dagger nonetheless.

But Simmons says the Heat are old & tired. But Simmons says the Heat have no energy. But Simmons said Ray Allen has given his last post game interview. But Simmons says crowd is dead. But Simmons says they should trade Bosh. But Simmons says Riley was going to fire Spoelstra. But Simmons says they should trace Wade for Iman Shumpert. But Simmons says LeBron…..well everything he’s ever said about LeBron.

When you’re watching the ESPN broadcast, just remember the Bill Simmons said ALL of these ridiculous things and MUCH more. I used to love his stuff. Read every word and looked forward to his articles, podcasts, book, Grantland, etc. but he has become nothing but a snarky Heat Hater. I can’t listen to him or read his stuff anymore. We’re done Bill. You’ve become no different than CB13.

That’s because he’s a true Celtics homer and the Heat beat his team too many times for him to stay objective.

I think you’re misinterpreting Simmons. He’s a pretty big LeBron fan and therefore an undercover Heat fan – but he’s supposed to be a true Celtics homer, so he has to masquerade as a Heat hater sometimes so he doesn’t get flack from Celtics fans and his own family – and to reduce his own guilt.

But he wouldn’t be the least bit disappointed if he saw LeBron James win three in a row.

I love the theory. He takes shots because he is ashamed of his true feelings. Like the way Charlie came down too hard on Maverick because she saw TOO MUCH genius in his flying and that she didn’t want Ice Man, Hollywood, Slider and the rest to see how she’s falling for him?

Amazing defense! They neither pressured the ball, nor did they even cover LeBron as he walked into the lane after not needing to set a screen to get free.

    • abchome - May 9, 2014 at 12:21 PM

Guess that’s the only way they could get the ball back…
