Wizards’ Nene suspended for Game 4 vs. Bulls

Apr 26, 2014, 4:02 PM EDT

Wizards’ big man Nene has been suspended one game for the altercation that got him ejected from Game 3 against the Bulls, the league announced on Saturday via official release.

Nene’s action was described as “head-butting and grabbing guard-forward Jimmy Butler of the Chicago Bulls around the neck with both hands and attempting to throw him down,” and the suspension was something that was completely expected — even by Joakim Noah of the Bulls.

Washington opened the series by taking the first two games in Chicago, but lost a close one at home in Game 3 and now will be without a key piece on Sunday, when the Bulls will have a great chance to even the series.

You can elbow someone in the throat and not get suspended. But grab the back of someone’s head and you’ve got to sit.

    Very consistent.

What elbow to the throat? I saw LBJ use his bulging neck muscles on poor McBob’s puny elbow. I guess it’s just a matter of perspective.

@kinggw – Good point! The NBA has got to revisit these incidents. It’s not fair to the Wizards losing Nene on something trivial like that, and McRoberts should have easily have earned a suspension with the elbow.

    Bulls got what they wanted.

Take a seat Nene. Watch helplessly from the bench while your team loses to Da Bulls & Jimmy Butler.

MAN OH MAN Bulls fans were dead silent after the first two losses and they get one win and all of the sudden they come out of the wood works!

Tell me something- how does it feel to know the only way you can win is when NeNe is riding the pine for one game? And how do you plan on winning the next two games after that when NeNe is back??

    Fairweather fans…

    • cfos00 - Apr 26, 2014 at 6:38 PM

Yes, fair weather fans…that were top 5 in attendance even during the Tim Floyd Eddie Curry years. Meanwhile you could literally buy a ticket to any game at any level at the booth during the regular season to the Wizards at any point, and weren’t in the top half of the league for attendance yet again. Tell us again about fair weather fans.

    • gordocb - Apr 27, 2014 at 4:23 AM

What do you expect them to be doing? Cheering for games they lost, of course there’s not much to say when you lose. But at least get you grammar right if you want to slam Bulls fans, you come out of the “woodwork”, not quite sure what wood works are.

      • Eutaw's Finest - Apr 28, 2014 at 7:00 AM

Grammar attack on an auto correct by a phone, eh? Well I guess you have to take whatever moral victory you can… on behalf of Apple, I apologize.

    @kinggw
Haslem will probably take care of that tonight.

lol nene wasn’t fully dedicated to that move. you’re supposed to throw a bunch when you grab the head like that

  8. jimeejohnson - Apr 26, 2014 at 8:28 PM

There shouldn’t be any one name guys in the NBA. Three names are much better: World B. Free! What did the B. stand for, anyway? Metta World War, I mean Peace (Love the guy); Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

    Sarcasm intended.

  9. theebadguy - Apr 26, 2014 at 9:09 PM

Boneheaded move by Nene. His absence will be felt game 4

    • ez0682 - Apr 27, 2014 at 2:11 AM

Trust me flukeness does happen again. They can’t compete with the wizards too big too fast too smart too nasty on D. They lost they left a the last Game.

Nene? Only 1 name? This is basketball not soccer, come on man.

    Eutaw’s Finest,

Obviously you’ve never been to Chicago. It’s the best sports town in the world & right now we are all breathing the Bulls & Blackhaws. So put your wizard cape on and take a chill pill.

    • ez0682 - Apr 27, 2014 at 5:57 PM

Hahaha I rather b a Milwaukee bucks than the pasten bulls.

    • Eutaw's Finest - Apr 28, 2014 at 7:28 AM

How are those Cubbies and ChiSox doing in the greatest sports town in the world? Or those Bears? I’m a Baltimore boy, not a DC guy, but like all Baltimore fans, we are pro-Caps and Wiz. So the way I look at it? I have the SB champ Ravens 1 year removed from their last SB, the O’s who play in the toughest division in baseball and, after missing the playoffs by 2 games last year, are one year removed from their last playoff appearance, the Caps who, before this season’s debacle, made the playoffs 7 years in a row, and the Wiz who are back in. So in short? We’re doing just fine down here.

You can’t have abysmal teams like the Cubs and ChiSox, and the Bears who fall apart every year, and call yourself the best sports town in the world.

correction: (BlackhawKs) MAN OH MAN I’m loosing it because I too am still puzzled over that “wood works” comment.
