In 2007, Luol Deng was named a finalist for the Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award. The honor ultimately went to Steve Nash, but today, Deng received the honor.

NBA Public Relations:

Cle L Deng named 13-14 winner of the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award by the PBWA for outstanding service and dedication to the community

In Chicago, Cleveland and abroad, Deng has made a mark for being generous his time and thoughtful with his contributions.

He’ll be a free agent after this season and whatever team he winds up with, the local community will be lucky to have him.

Love Deng. Been saying it for months he’s going to la… Clippers or lakers probably lakers. Perfect player to put along side Kobe.

Initially I did not want to see Deng in the PURP & GOLD, but lately I have begun to warm up to the idea. He is not a superstar but he is a really good player. Rumor has it the LAKERS are interested in signing him too. Btw, you misspelled L A K E R S (all caps, please).

Deng’s a great human being. He’s missed here in Chicago on & off the court.

Remember when The People’s Elbow won this award?

Rarely do we ever hear of a former Duke player running afoul of the law. Coincidence? I think not. Coach is a great coach and leader of men.

They also never take chances with kids that have off the court issues before college. Which to me makes it so much more impressive that they are usually top 25 in the nation. They rarely sign the inner-city freak athletes.

A few of his former players sure have been involved in some major financial screwups that have hurt those his former players have misled.

Interesting picture for the George family collection.
