Mason Plumlee makes field goal without touching the ball

Apr 14, 2014, 10:33 AM EDT

When the Magic’s Dewayne Dedmon and Kyle O’Quinn battled each other for a defensive rebound and tipped the ball into their own basket, the credit for the shot and offensive rebound went to the nearest Net. Lucky Mason Plumlee.

(hat tip: The Brooklyn Game)

    Now that’s efficient scoring!

Blocking 2-handed dunks by LeBron, scoring the ball without touching it…

Mason Plumlee is teaching the world to redefine what’s possible!!!!

Kidding aside, I never liked how you could get credit for a basket despite doing nothing to contribute to it.

I understand the NBA wants all baskets to be attributable to a player on the team that gained the points, but it still seems counter to the purpose of individual player stats for a player to get credit for points he didn’t actually score.

A funny comment followed by an astute one. It’s only a shame that Thumbs-Up can’t pay your bills.

See, Carmelo! You DON’T need touches to score!

It bothers me that they randomly award a rebound & bucket to the nearest offensive player. Would the world melt if you put an Orlando player under Brooklyn’s stats in order to correctly attribute the statistics? And wouldn’t it be interesting to see who leads the NBA all time in field goals scored for the opposing team? (My bet is on Dennis Rodman)
