Dikembe Mutombo talks (and imitates Cookie Monster) with Pete Holmes

Apr 11, 2014, 3:13 PM EDT

The Pete Holmes Show has become must watch, the home to some of the funniest interviews around the NBA.

The latest guy on the couch is NBA legend Dikembe Mutombo. Who because he speaks in the third person in a gravely voice is already pretty great anytime he opens his mouth.

But get him to talk like Cookie Monster and you have comedy gold. Gold, Jerry, gold.

Here is a 100% true story about Mutombo; he was facing the Celtics in the ’02 playoffs when he was a Sixer. My friends and I, in our early 20’s, had seats basically directly behind the basket. We started calling Dikembe “Cookie Monster” a LONG time ago, so we had a few drinks and all started talking like him. Little did we know that his entire family was sitting about 5 feet to our right. His kids were in tears laughing and his wife was starring us down w/the look of death. I’m sure some jackass will take this story out of context, but it was funny and it’s good to see that Mutombo wouldn’t have jammed his finger in my eye if he actually heard us.
