Basically because his team is so good (and the Sacramento Kings are so bad).
Durant had scored 25 or more points in 41 straight games — besting Michael Jordan’s streak of 40 — but that came to an end on Tuesday night against Sacramento. Because the Thunder were blowing out the Kings and so Durant got some extended rest on the bench.
Durant finished with 23 points on 8-of-13 shooting in 31 minutes. He didn’t play the fourth quarter as the Thunder reserves started the quarter on a 16-0 run and put the game out of reach (OKC won 107-92).
With a big game against the Clippers on Wednesday — Los Angeles is breathing down Oklahoma City’s neck for the two seed, they are just 1.5 games back — coach Scott Brooks was more than happy to rest his starters. With Caron Butler scoring 22 off the bench it was an easy decision.
Now the circus has left town so Durant and company can solely focus on the playoffs.
