Roy Hibbert: ‘We don’t deserve the No. 1 seed’

Apr 1, 2014, 11:00 AM EST

For the first time all season, the Heat (red) have a better record than the Pacers (blue).

That means the Heat (51-22) would get the No. 1 seed over the Pacers (52-23) if the season ended today.

Roy Hibbert, via Bob Kravitz of the IndyStar:

“Good for them (the Heat),” Roy Hibbert said dourly. “We don’t deserve it. Good for them. Whoever we see in the playoffs, we’ll see, but we’ve got to figure things out…But we don’t deserve the No. 1 seed.”

Well, technically, Hibbert is absolutely correct. The team with the conference’s best record deserves the No. 1 seed, and the Pacers don’t have the Eastern Conference’s best record.

But Indiana has more wins than Miami. The top seed is still very much in reach – if the Pacers get it together.

If they end their bickering, they might get the top seed. If they end their bickering and fix their offense, they’ll almost definitely get the top seed.

Now isn’t the time for sulking. It’s time for the Pacers to summon their resolve and show why they should deserve the No. 1 seed.
