Patrick Beverley says torn meniscus may not require surgery, timetable could be 10 days to four weeks

But speaking to reporters on Saturday, Beverley seemed a bit more optimistic.
“No one was going to remove anything,” Beverley said. “We haven’t even discussed surgery yet. It looks to the point I think I might not have to get surgery. We don’t know. We have to see Dr. Andrews on Monday for him to make his educated decision about that.”
Removing, rather than repairing, the torn part of the meniscus is the procedure that generally allows a player to return more quickly. Beverley said Andrews has reviewed his test results. The Rockets list Beverley as day-to-day.
“I feel pretty good,” Beverley said. “I feel like I knocked knees with somebody. It hurt a lot the first day. I don’t really feel a lot of pain today, which is a good sign. No swelling. So I’m going to go see the best knee doctor in the country. I spoke to him on the phone. He has seen it. It really looks good. We’ll see how long it lasts. It may be 10 to 14 days, maybe four weeks. He just has to get his hand on it and see how it is.
If surgery ends up not being required, or if Beverley feels after the consultation that he could continue to play through the injury after a bit of rest and wait until the offseason to have a more detailed procedure, that would obviously be huge for Houston’s chances.
Beverley has been known as a pest to guards on other teams, which is part of what makes him so valuable to his. The perimeter defense he’s provided has been a major boost, and it’s allowed Jeremy Lin to produce with the second unit instead of being forced to play with the starters.
With Dwight Howard sidelined (albeit more temporarily), Houston could use some good news on the injury front. The Rockets have been among the strongest teams in the league since the All-Star break, but will obviously need their full complement of players available to continue to do damage once the postseason begins.
