PBT Extra: Can Phil Jackson help right the ship in New York?

Mar 10, 2014, 6:11 PM EDT

Phil Jackson to New York seems like all but a done deal. The question should be: Is it a good deal for the Knicks?

Kay Adams put that question to me in the latest PBT Extra — and I think he can. He will provide a direction, something lacking for a team that just seems to assemble parts. The question is does Jackson have a Jedi mind trick that can keep James Dolan at bay?

Also we discuss Joakim Noah and his run with the Bulls, does this put him in the MVP conversation? Also, what is with the Heat and Pacers slumping?

I think ppl are expecting him to be Pat Riley and fix all that mess. I don’t think he can.

    In a word, no.

Robert Kraft wrote a very short book about building a winning franchise.

      1) Find the right guy

      2) Sign the checks

      3) Get out of the way

    That question is moot.

What I find particularly piquant is the simple fact he could have gone to the Lakers instead.

What does this say about the illustrious Purple and Gold?

    That is the REAL question.

It says nothing until it’s a done deal.

Nervous? Riley has not fared well against Phil, ever.

    • 1historian - Mar 10, 2014 at 9:58 PM

Answer – he’s sick of them and he can go wherever he pleases.

Jim Buss doesn’t care for Phil. Jim Buss wanted to and still wants to make his own way with the Lakers.

We all know about Phil and Jim’s sister.

Jim Buss feels threatened by the Lakers.

Phil could NOT have gone to the Lakers instead.

As for now, with the Lakers really being in the crapper, maybe others are getting through to Jim Buss and it could happen.

But he couldn’t have gone there before… due to Jim not being secure enough in himself to allow it.

If I’m Phil Jackson right now, I just love seeing my name and picture on all the Basketball blogs and taking headline space away from NFL free agency.
    Phil loves the attention!

Why would there be headlines about NFL free agency on a basketball blog?

      • mackcarrington - Mar 10, 2014 at 10:03 PM

Meant to add from all of the other sports headlines.
        Happy now?

    Of course he can.

Not a Phil fan; much less a Knicks fan, but lets give him the benefit of the doubt. At the very worst he’s going to be better than Isiah Thomas.

Phil = Bill (Parcells circa 2008)

      Someone’s nervous
