The Lakers’ worst loss in franchise history, by the numbers

Mar 7, 2014, 9:33 AM EDT

Pau Gasol

The Clippers beat the Lakers, 142-94, Thursday night – the biggest loss in Lakers history. In the spirit of Lakers schadenfreude, let’s dig a little deeper into the blowout:

  • 48 – Margin of victory/defeat, the largest for the Clippers/Lakers in each franchise’s history
  • 3 – Years since any team has been beaten so badly. The Lakers beat the Cavaliers, 112-57, in 2011.
  • 2 – Number of times any NBA team has outscored an opponent by at least 30 points in a quarter since 2001
  • 2 – Number of times the Clippers have outscored an opponent by at least 30 points in a quarter this season. They topped the Lakers 44-13 in the second quarter Thursday and the 76ers 46-15 in the first quarter Feb. 9
  • 31 – Lakers’ rebounding deficit, worst by any team this season
  • 4 – Double-doubles by the Clippers: Blake Griffin (20 points and 11 rebounds), Matt Barnes (17 points and 12 rebounds), DeAndre Jordan (14 points and 12 rebounds) and Chris Paul (13 points and 11 rebounds)
  • 4 – Points Clippers would have won by if the outputs of their two-leading scorers, Darren Collison (24 points) and Blake Griffin (20 points), were removed from the scoreboard
  • .339 – Lakers’ winning percentage after the loss. At 21-41, they’re on pace for their worst record since moving to Los Angeles.

Shutta: Quit trying to be something you are not. Its obvious that you are whiter than 10 white things.

You’re also as dumb as a bag of hammers. You quoting How I Met Your Mother evidently was the apex of your posting career. Yuck.

D’Antoni should be coaching… in a 6’5″ and under league. Was Chris Kaman hurt? Or in MDA’s doghouse again? It must mess with Kaman that MDA plays D-leaguer + Robert Sacre with his limited skill sets over him.

One only has to scroll up to see you crying and whining, it happens on nearly every lakers article.
You give yourself way too much credit, regarding me “waiting for you to post”.

I read the comments, I see you whine, I respond.

If it isn’t worth it, why have you responded all along? You know why? You can’t help yourself. You think you’re going to type that one zinger that somehow shames me away from commenting, don’t you?

    I laugh at you.

The Clippers didn’t have a “fanbase” until a couple of years ago.

I don’t need to do that, you’re famous for it. Just type in your screenname and pbt in Google, its all there in black and white, you big crybaby. Call me a troll again…you’re pitiful.

P.S. I thought you were done responding because it wasn’t worth it? You lasted a couple hours….lmao!

4- The number of years ago The Lakers last won a Championship

3- The number of a point guard that has never won a Western Conference title

2-. The round the clippers will lose in. Again

1- The number of rings Doc won with KG, Paul, Ray ray, and Rondo

0- The number of rings the clippers will have in 100 years

Nah, its just fun to rub your hypersensitive lakers. fans faces in it, especially because you like to wave banners in everyone’s faces. The shoes on the other foot now, you dished it out, now F’n take it you whiny little babies.
we heard all last offseason when you got Nash and Howard was how this was the start of a new dynasty. Your fanbase had this coming, just shut up and take it.

There are only 2 players on the Lakers… Pau and Kendall? Kelly is getting there… The rest are just a bunch of bad lotto tickets, especially ball pig Nick Young…

For many, many years the Lakers dominated the Clippers, not only when they were in San Diego but after they moved to L.A. to get their yearly beatdowns without the travel.

Just recently the Clippers have finally fielded a competitive team. It happens to be at a time when the Lakers are rebuilding, so the Clippers get to taste a little revenge. Unfortunately for the Clippers, who’ve never won much of anything, their “rivalry” with the team that has owned L.A. for more than 50 years isn’t really a rivalry and won’t be until both teams are good at the same time.

The Lakers will miss the playoffs this year, something that has been quite rare. The Clippers will be in the playoffs this year, something else that has been quite rare. Just because big brother got the runs and had to spend some time in the bathroom, leaving you to pretend you rule the house, doesn’t make it so until you can prove it when big brother’s healthy and in the room.

It’s on the Clippers to remain good in order to challenge the Lakers when they become good again. The Lakers have had good and great teams for many years while the Clippers languished in anonymity. Just because the Clippers happen to have benefited from David Stern’s meddling and become good while that meddling sent the Lakers down the path the Clippers usually tread doesn’t absolve the Clippers of all those years of mediocrity. You can’t claim a town when you’ve been such a poor rival.

When the Clippers are good at the same time the Lakers are good, and the Clippers actually beat a good Lakers team, then the Clippers can claim the city. Until then they are just keeping the seat warm until the real owners return.
