Report: Bucks in buyout talks with Caron Butler

Apparently Thomas Wolfe was right, you can’t go home again.

It was a great story to see Caron Butler going home to Wisconsin (he was born in Racine) to play for the Bucks to end his career. Except the Bucks season has turned into an unmitigated disaster and at this point a veteran like Butler doesn’t want to be part of a rebuilding project (or babysitting Larry Sanders).

So the Bucks and Butler are negotiating a buyout, reports Gery Woelfel of the Journal Times.

If a deal is reached and Butler can clear waivers several teams would be interested.

According to the Miami Herald the Heat players would welcome Butler back and the team is known to be looking for a three who can help keep Dwyane Wade’s minutes down and play well in the playoffs. San Antonio among other teams may also have interest.

Butler isn’t the player he once was — he’s a low-efficiency shooter (38.7 percent overall) who also is not much of an on-ball defender anymore. The question is if you took him on a team where he didn’t have to carry as much offense (usage percentage of 23.8 in Milwaukee, his highest since 2009) could he improve his efficiency?

Some contender will take a bet that he can if this buyout is completed.
