J.R. Smith plays with Vince Carter’s headband during game (VIDEO)

Feb 25, 2014, 12:02 AM EDT

Well, at least he didn’t untie his shoelaces.

Early in the fourth quarter of the Mavericks taking on the Knicks Monday night, J.R. Smith decided to just knock Vince Carter‘s headband down over his eye. The best is Carter’s look of “what is this, third grade?” But it also works, notice Carter spends most of the play trying to readjust the headband.

Smith has already been fined by the league his year for untying guys shoelaces during games. Most likely they do a quiet warning to him here, but we will see.

If you believe in Karma, Smith’s action could account for the fortunate bounce Dirk Nowitzki got on the game’s final shot.

Hat tip to Ben Golliver of Sports Illustrated’s The Point Forward.

I’d like to thank JR Smith for the endless entertainment. The guy is bananas.

He was just trying to stop the Vinsanity. Somebody give this guy a show or something, even Carter was laughing.

Didn’t Dirk hit a similar game winner over the knicks a few years back? Like a 3 for the win that bounced and hit the backboard and went in over felton or something?

The title of the article had me thinking that JR took the headband off of Carter’s head and wore it on his own. Really, really glad that is not the case!

I don’t like it. As a NY Knick fan I have to say if there is one guy that should be on his best behavior, it’s this guy. Sure he is just clowning around but are the Knicks sitting so pretty?

What it were done at a crucial point in a game? Back in the day a player named Reggie Miller would have turned something like that into a technical. Just because because there were no friendships when you are on the court.

He’s too immature to be trusted with this stuff. Just play ball man.

Wow arrest JR and throw away the key. This guy is out of control, first the shoe laces, now the head band, what a menace to society (sarcasm). Slow day for these idiot writers to bring up this crap. How about concentrate on real stories like Raymond Felton’s felony gun arrest.

It isn’t like you have to be serious to play basketball. Besides all the money, basketball did start as a game…Just no more….
