UPDATE 2:58 pm: The Clippers have announced it is official, Glen Davis is now a member of the team.

“I’ve always made the Playoffs in my career and not playing for something was crazy,” Davis said in a released statement. “Being on this team is some fresh energy, knowing that you can help a team win a championship is important. It feels good.”

1:10 pm: If you watched the Clippers beat the Thunder on Sunday, one thing should have been clear about Los Angeles — they need Glen Davis. The drop off from the starting pair of Blake Griffin/DeAndre Jordan to the first big off the bench in Ryan Hollins is pretty much like jumping off Everest.

Glen Davis is a solid NBA big man and that is a huge step up for the Clippers.

It has been known since Sunday Davis planed to sign with the Clippers, Doc Rivers confirmed that Sunday night. Los Angeles could have him Monday night in New Orleans, reports Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times.

Davis played for Doc Rivers in Boston, he knows the systems. There is not going to be a huge learning curve here.

Davis was averaging 12 points a game in Orlando and his numbers may increase as his minutes increase — he’s going to get a lot of run in Los Angeles. If he plays well he earns himself a nice payday on his next contract as well.

He is what the Clippers need out of a backup big man. He can stretch the floor, post up and do some work on the boards. The most important of all those three skills is the floor spacing part. Davis can hit shots out to 17-18 feet with regularity. He will open the court up for Blake or DJ without sacrificing rebounding and defense (which is what they were losing when they put Barnes at the four spot, the guy is physical for a three but he isn’t a power forward in the least). This isn’t a big move on the surface but they just added a much needed piece to the roster.

And the pick and pop with CP3 will be a problem for other teams.

He does some dirty work too. Which really is what is lacking for Clips to beat Memphis. Zebo finally has a match on the Clips side. Do not mess up wit big baby…

people act like it’s the second coming of Shaq…the MAGIC bought his contract out.

It is good news but must be tempered with the fact that we are discussing the Clippers who have a well earned reputation as losers. That perception may change in the future but there is only one way to win the championship and a thousand ways to lose. Clippers have the key to the latter.
