Nene finishes the game-winning dunk to send Wizards past Pelicans (VIDEO)

Feb 22, 2014, 10:30 PM EDT

Nene rarely comes up during conversations regarding the league’s best big men, but there’s a reason he was signed to a contract that still owes him $13 million per year in each of the next two seasons.

When healthy (which has admittedly been anything but a consistent occurrence), Nene can hang with the best of them. Against the Pelicans and Anthony Davis on Saturday, he finished with a game-high 30 points on 13-of-19 shooting, including this game-winning dunk with three tenths of a second remaining to give the Wizards the victory.

Beautiful play by John Wall, too, to draw multiple defenders and then find the open man instead of forcing the shot at the buzzer.

People say that Kyrie is more clutch than Wall but fun question for discussion is that in that same play what would Irving have done? My gut says dribble moves then a pull-up J, which is of course less efficient than the dunk created by Wall

People also say that Kyrie is a “me first” player. That doesn’t make for a good point guard or a good teammate. Tonight’s game in Cleveland at 6 pm should be lots of fun to watch.

Well, that was a fun game to watch. Wall completely dominated Kyrie on the defensive end. Held him to 0 for 5 in the 4th quarter. Nene hurt his knee. Can the Wiz win without him. Earlier in the season, they could not. Now, time will tell if the bench can step up. Harrington is supposed to be healthy again, and Seraphin and Booker are showing definite signs of improvement. It’s going to be a fun ride to the finish this year.
