Clippers’ J.J. Redick out indefinitely with bulging disc in back, other injuries

UPDATE: 9:08 pm: The Clippers have made it official, saying J.J. Redick is out “indefinitely with a bulging disc in his lower back.”

While he certainly has a variety of injuries, it is the back that is the most serious. They still expect to have him back for the playoffs.

7:45 pm: This is pretty much exactly what the Spurs are doing with Tony Parker

Knowing they need him more in April and May than February, the Clippers are shutting down J.J. Redick for a few weeks to let him get healthy.

Redick is averaging 15.7 points a game for the Clippers as Doc Rivers uses him not unlike he used Ray Allen in 2008 — running off screens to get open and tire defenders, plus to space the floor. It has worked, he has been key when healthy. He has played in just 30 games for Los Angeles and missed a number before the All-Star break as well.

No Redick will mean more Matt Barnes as the Clippers make their playoff push. At least they now have Chris Paul back in the rotation.

Rivers is following the Popovich playbook. And since Redick isn’t a “star” no one is going to whine about him being sat down unnecessarily.

Wonder where and when the back issue surfaced? When Cousins knocked J.J. to the floor?

that sucks, you can’t set time tables for back injuries. it heals when it heals. at least he’s got loot and the L.A. backdrop to comfort him.

Hey it could be worse, we could be the Lakers!!!

“Hey it could be worse, we could be the Lakers!!!”

Meaning the clips could have won a championship in the last 5 years, or 10 years, or 20 years or ever, could not have made laughingstocks out of their #1 picks…Darius Miles and Michael Olawakandi anyone?

Clipper Fan I’m actually happy for your team, FINALLY, they get out of the doldrums and play respectable ball, only 2 problems with this though. #1 The Lakers arent very good right now, having two good teams in LA at once makes the product better and the rivalry one actually worth watching. #2 The Clips havent done anything yet, after their best season ever they lost in the 1st round….hold your horses until you at least make the conference finals…..

SOrry the Clippers have never been like the Lakers and buy championships. Now, they merely pay for mediocrity. Something the Clippers never did.

      • asimonetti88 - Feb 19, 2014 at 11:21 AM

Michael Olowokandi and Darius Miles? Man Lakers fans really do live in the past!

How about some more recent Clippers picks? Like Yaroslav Korolev, who lasted a whole two years in the NBA! Or Al Thornton, who lit up the Puerto Rican league last year! Or Furkan Aldemir, who was filler in the Royce White trade! Or Reggie Bullock, with his 2 PPG and 7 PER!

      • musician0785 - Feb 19, 2014 at 11:47 AM

I was goin for #1 overall picks, but we can say Trey Thompkins, Al Farouq Aminu, Chris Wilcox or Melvin Ely

      • musician0785 - Feb 22, 2014 at 3:15 PM

buy championships? hahaha ok…sure the lakers arent good cuz half the roster is hurt….if cp3 AND Blake Griffin got hurt, the clippers would be pretty awful too….people love saying things like the Lakers suck, they’re a disaster…with zero context

  6. ufools - Feb 19, 2014 at 1:45 AM

@musician……get over it….the lakers are terrible. Also, get hour facts right before talking crap on a team. Clips were 1 game from the WCF 6 years ago and the season before last advanced out of the first round. Their “best season” wasn’t a first round exit.

    • musician0785 - Feb 19, 2014 at 10:17 AM

The lakers arent good because 8 out 14 guys have serious injuries, their fielding a team with 7 sometimes 8 guys to play a game, OF COURSE they’re not gonna be any good, they’re the MOST injured team in the league, they were about a .500 team before All the injuries, so calling them terrible isn’t accurate…but of course don’t let facts get in the way….oh and the “best season” is exactly that a SEASON, you know, where they won about 56 games, you’re telling me they had a better regular season than that? SHOW ME…how about you get YOUR facts straight

“Clips were 1 game from the WCF 6 years ago ”
