Dwight Howard Instagrams photo of himself dunking on Kobe Bryant

Feb 14, 2014, 11:55 AM EDT

Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard

If someone ever photographed me dunking on someone – an impossibility, considering my hops have most commonly been compared to Bill Laimbeer’s, and I’m not 6-foot-11 – I’d be tempted to send that picture to the dunk victim every single day.

If the dunked-on were my friend, I probably would. If he weren’t a friend, I’d probably resist. You can just rib friends in ways you don’t treat others.

Well, either Dwight Howard and Kobe Bryant have improved their relationship or Howard doesn’t share my approach, because the Rockets center posted this on his Instagram:

Throwback hahahahah. Nothin like how he got me but look at dfish and pau face hhahah.

For the record, he’s probably referencing this:

Announcement: Pro Basketball Talk’s partner FanDuel is hosting a one-day $70,000 Fantasy Basketball league for Tuesday night’s games – the first games after All-Star Break. It’s $25 to join and first prize is $9,000. Starts at 7pm ET on Tuesday. Here’s the FanDuel link.

I’m not sure Howard’s self-deprecating caption will spare him from wrath of Kobe, who isn’t in the best mood these days.

Howard has mostly laid low in Houston, going about his business and helping his new team play much better than his old team has since trading for him. It seems Howard enjoys being (relatively) out of the spotlight and not facing quite so much pressure.

But this Instagram could stir up plenty of attention if Kobe responds. If Kobe lets it go, I suspect the photo it will pass soon enough.

I believe Howard is savvy enough to understand that. Maybe he misses the Los Angeles media attention, after all.

Yeah, but your team, the organization and Kobe himself did NOT choose to go after championships when they gave him his new two yr contract.

No one can’t say that it would be easier to surround Kobe with other good players if they had another $12 million or so to spend on talent.

Kobe didn’t have to make $24 mill a yr when he could have taken like $12 mill. That is a lot of money that could have been spent strengthening the roster to improve the Lakers odds of winning a championship from where they are going to be the next two seasons.

Also, between Kobe’s basketball contracts and endorsements, he’s earned about half a BILLION dollars so far so it wasn’t like he NEEDED to make $24 mill a yr for the next two yrs either.

Kobe says it’s about championships but then he weakened the team to grab a few more bucks.

When those two seasons are done, he’ll have earned over $327 million from b-ball salary.

About his endorsement money, well here is this from Forbes magazine…

      No. 1: Kobe Bryant
      Earnings: $59.8 million
      On-court: $27.8 million
      Off-court: $32 million
Bryant’s salary is $7 million higher than any other player’s. Nike sells twice as many Bryant sneakers in China as in the U.S.

So, Kobe made $32 million, MORE than he made from his highest basketball salary in the league.

And that was just for last year, ONE season he made $32 million off the court.

So, with basically a half a BILLION in combined earnings (salary and endorsements), just WHY did Kobe take so much salary? He SAYS he’s about championships but his actions say he’s about money.

Count the rings D12. Also you are a 6’11 athletic freak of genetics with a 35-40 inch vert, it is expected of you to dunk on a player of Kobe’s size. On the other hand, if you get put on a poster by a player of Kobe’s size you deserve to get put on a poster so don’t talk crap Dwight.

Don’t know what’s funnier: Howard dunking on Kobe or the whining from all of Kobe’s groupies (see above comments).

Such a Dwight thing to do. He’s been so good so far in Houston too.

  8. Professor Fate - Feb 14, 2014 at 4:10 PM

I’m guessing if you looked up “two-faced” on the ‘net you’d find a pic of Howard. Can anyone explain why he accepted a trade to L.A. if he ended up hating the whole experience so much? He’s either really bad at doing any research beforehand, or he was just lying like a dog to get out of Orlando. Three guesses and the first two don’t count. What a tool.
