Cavs owner Dan Gilbert gives Mike Brown a vote of confidence

It’s really hard to envision Mike Brown being the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers next season. If Knicks’ fans want to see a team that has really tuned out its coach, they should watch the Cavs — this is a bottom 10 offense and defense. While part of the issue is the talent on the roster, part of it is a team that settles for long jumpers and doesn’t move well off the ball on offense. And defense is supposed to be the side of the ball where Brown’s teams are strong.

Whoever ends up replacing Chris Grant as the long-term general manager of the Cavs will want their own guy in the coach’s seat.

But for now Mike Brown stays as he got a vote of confidence from owner Dan Gilbert, as reported in the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

“We’re going to see Mike Brown succeed this year,” said Gilbert, in spite of the fact that Brown’s team takes a 16-33 record into Friday night’s game at Washington. “I think he will be able to do good things in the next 30 games or so. I think this team is going to be able to do good things. They’re going to look at each other, look in the mirror, and they’re going to rally. We’re going to do everything we can to give them the air cover they need.”

Notice he is only talking about this year. Of course the Cavs gave Brown a five-year contract at the start of this season, so he’s going to be getting paid for a while whether he is roaming the sidelines or not. Just a little parting gift from Grant to the organization.

It will be interesting to watch Cleveland at the trade deadline, they already made one big move to bring in Luol Deng, and basically anyone on the roster not named Kyrie Irving can be had for the right price.

“We’re going to see Mike Brown succeed this year,” said Gilbert, in spite of the fact that Brown’s team takes a 16-33 record into Friday night’s game at Washington. “I think he will be able to do good things in the next 30 games or so. I think they should trade Irving and have Brown play the point.

That quote was even more meaningful the second time around.

I think this’l be Mike Brown’s last stint as head coach. He couldn’t manage superstars on the Lakers and he can’t manage young talent with these Cavs.

He had success with LeBron because…well..LeBron.

He did not coach Lebron he and Dan Gilbert ate off him for 4,5 years and never surrounded him with the player he needed with Bobby/Varijael. Thats why it shouldn’t surprise anyone about their situation. Anyone could have gotten to the finals with that kid, this was before Boston,Orlando got their act together. Just think he wanted to implement a Princeton offense with Lakers, you 30+ year olds Kobe, Nash. Who does that?????????????????????????????????????????????????

Whelp, you know he’s gonna be fired. A vote of confidence is the kiss of death

file this under: hes the coach right now and until he is fired or let go, what are you supposed to say? that team is dysfunctional X 100.

I guess Gilbert couldn’t say anything else. He can’t say, “I never knew he sucked this badly”. He has to make the team feel like he’s behind Brown, even when we know he can’t be. We all know that firing Grant just happened because Grant talked Gilbert into hiring Brown. He has to see that Brown has lost the team, that he isn’t respected and he can’t handle the young players or the veterans. Brown doesn’t have that confused look on the sidelines by accident. He really has no idea how to fix things because he didn’t know that much to start with. But Gilbert doesn’t want to get rid of the coach and the GM all in one motion. He has a cancer on the team and unfortunately he can’t operate on the tumor (Brown) so he got rid of the guy who gave him the cancer.

lebron james made mike brown looks so good it even tastes so bad.

MB doesn’t have a good track record with these votes of confidence if I recall.

Seriously though, a 5 year contract after his last season with the Lakers?

there are many mike browns who can’t coach worth a lick and yet they keep getting coaching jobs after another and yet people like ewing and kareem who are proven winners can’t get that opportunity even though they have paid their dues in coaching a long time ago.
