Mark Cuban says goodbye to David Stern with one final photo

Jan 31, 2014, 3:03 PM EDT

The caption is “Celebrating the commissioners final day in the office. Yes we are.. CLOSE friends”

Mark Cuban speaks highly of David Stern — as do pretty much all the NBA owners. He made them a boatload of money.

That’s not to say the Stern/Cuban relationship has been all puppy dogs and rainbows — Stern fined Cuban 20 times, totaling $2 million. But they are both passionate and both want to see the game improved, they just don’t always agree on how to get there.

On his final day in office Cuban posted this little public thank you to Stern. They are friends. But you have to know Stern is thinking “Adam Silver, he’s all yours now.”

Anybody else hope that it was a middle finger?

I’m not sure why people complain about the job David Stern has done over his tenure (aside from that fact that people will complain about anything and everything). Stern has grown this game both nationally and globally to levels not seen before (even during the Jordan era) and the rules that have changed along the way have been for the better. The NBA is a great product and David Stern is partially to thank for that.

Well, that whole Chris Paul to the Lakers thing made a bunch of folks angry. Do you think maybe that’s it?

That’s one thing a a 30-year career. And it wasn’t a good move for New Orleans, of which he was the acting owner at the time.

not me. charlotte did not have an owner at the time so the nba was acting as the owner and it was a bad trade. what would have made me mad is if the trade would have happened simply because charlotte was in a vulnerable position.

Hope Stern has a nice retirement. After dealing with that jackass all these years, he deserves it.

I hope there are NBA referees for his retirement. You know, to give technicals if he looks at his pina colada the wrong way while vacationing.

Cuban has shown the proper respect to Don David…
