Report: Knicks’ Beno Udrih requests trade

At points this season Beno Udrih has taken pointed criticism from Knicks coach Mike Woodson — remember back on Jan. 3 when J.R. Smith took an ill-advised three (tie game, shot clock turned off and rather than go for the last shot he fired away off an offensive rebound)? Woodson questioned why Udrih threw the ball to the open Smith. There have been other incidents as well.

Now the journeyman point guard has had enough and wants out.

Udrih has requested a trade, reports ESPNNewYork.com.

New York Knicks point guard Beno Udrih has requested a trade, sources told ESPNNewYork.com.

League sources say the 31-year-old veteran communicated his wishes to the Knicks in recent days and the team will try to honor the request.

You can just add this to the dysfunction of the Knicks’ season, which was exposed pretty blatantly by the Nets on Monday.

With Pablo Prigioni and Raymond Felton healthy there are not a lot of minutes for Udrih, who played just four against the Nets Monday.

Udrih has averaged 5.9 points per game this season, he’s been what he always is — decent. On the bright side he is shooting 41 percent from three. On the down side, he is -9.5 per 48 this season and the reason is mostly his defense.

Udrih is on a one-year veteran minimum contract. Which means the Knicks should find teams interested in taking him on — but they are not going to get a lot in return here. This is the kind of trade of a bench role player that nets a second round pick, not a first or a quality player.
