Kendrick Perkins calls The Oklahoman beat writer Darnell Mayberry ‘Thunder hater and snake in the grass’

It’s frustrating times for the Oklahoma City Thunder (even before Kevin Durant’s twitter was hacked).

They’ve lost lost four of six, including their last two – a loss to the lowly Jazz and a blowout at the hands of the Nuggets.

So, it’s understandable why players would be on edge. Losing is miserable.

In a since-deleted tweet, Kendrick Perkins took out some of that frustration on Darnell Mayberry of The Oklahoman. As captured by James Park of SheridanHoops:

If y’all didn’t know @DarnellMayberry is a Thunder hater and snake in the grass. Yea I said it @DarnellMayberry#ifyoudontlikethendosomethin

Personally, I enjoy Mayberry’s coverage very much. I’ve always found him informative and fair.

I’m not really sure why Perkins is upset. The only substantial Mayberry lines about Perkins in the last couple days I could find was this:

By the time the second period was halfway over, Brooks had grown so desperate for defense that he played Sefolosha, Roberson and Kendrick Perkins together. Ballsy.

And that’s not so bad.

Perhaps, it wasn’t a slight at himself that bothered Perkins, but a dig at a teammate or the entire squad. But I couldn’t find anything that seemed out of line. Mayberry’s descriptions have skewed negative lately, but that’s because the play of the team he’s writing about has skewed negative lately.

If he has a problem with Mayberry, Perkins definitely has a right bring public attention to it. The media certainly airs their grievances with the people they cover for the world to see. Perkins is entitled to do the same.

But if he wants to do that, do it. Bring up specific issues and make a case. Don’t make vague accusations and then delete them.

At that point, Perkins’ complaint lacks credibility.

He learned everything he knows from a non-stop b!tch, Kevin Garnett, in Boston.

He wasn’t that “aggressive” when Z-Bo was about to fold him like a freshly washed towel…!!! Just Sayin. Real tough guy’s are tough with everybody, Not just ppl they KNOW they can beat!! It’s just a way to take the attention off the fact that he is….THE MOST OVERPAID player in the league!!

Are you telling me that Perk backed down from Z-Bo??? No, not Kendrick Perkins!!! You must be talking about his twin, Tony!!!!

      1. Do you know him personally!
      2. Has he said something to you or someone you know, that would give you that perception
      3. Or have you arrived at that conclusion, based on media snippits the MEDIA has edited to give you that idea.

Since the issues have been identified, I will elaborate/ educate further.

1.The MEDIA has the “mic”. Celebrities don’t have a voice!
2.Celebrities that find themselves in front of the “mic” are at the mercy of the private sector/ corporate interests.
      3. It is all predicated on what the corporate interests are. If the celebrity, owner/ organization has not played ball with the media outlet, has not supported a particular politician etc, etc, etc..then life can potentially become MISERABLE!

Perkins is a fake tough guy, he learned from KG. He should be fined if not suspended at least a game. This current generation of players are too caught up in technology, you can’t go around threatening guys because you don’t like what they say. Leave that to us blog commenters.

The Great Kendrick Perkins need to shut up. He sucks and is overpaid, and is probably butthurt that Mayberry criticized him in some way

  5. whoisrdymlz - Jan 10, 2014 at 11:38 AM

He probably just wants to see that franchise moved back to where it belongs.

I like when OKC wears their throw back jersey, from 2010.

  6. legend30 - Jan 10, 2014 at 11:42 AM

Perkins is a fake tough. He probably thinks he’s the best center in the NBA.

    • fanofevilempire - Jan 10, 2014 at 12:00 PM

he is fake tough and real ugly.

    • fanofevilempire - Jan 10, 2014 at 12:03 PM

he does not think he is the best center, he knows it.

if only he was in game 7, he would have stopped kobe.

Internet whiners calling people fake tough guys when they would probably cry and pee their pants if those supposed fake tough guys walked in the room, got to love it.

    • azarkhan - Jan 10, 2014 at 1:38 PM

Agreed. Stephen Jackson vouched for Kendrick Perkins toughness in an interview on the Dan Le Batard show. I’ll take Capt Jacks word over any of the above.

    • fanofevilempire - Jan 10, 2014 at 3:18 PM

tough guys don’t pee their pants, we make people pee their pants.
Now go check your fruit of the looms.

OKC’s newspaper is called The Oklahoma? Oh wait, it’s a Helin post.

  9. tontoepstein - Jan 10, 2014 at 12:54 PM

Better to be a snake in the grass than a stiff on the court.

  10. cheathamhouse1 - Jan 10, 2014 at 3:19 PM

Did he make that tweet or was his phone hacked while he was tripping over his untied shoestrings? LOL! The NBA is turning into a comedy club.

  11. chiadam - Jan 10, 2014 at 5:15 PM

Is there anyone or anything that Perkins doesn’t have a problem with. He’s miserable every second of every day.

  12. themagicfanguy - Jan 11, 2014 at 3:15 AM

Look at that basketball player on the other team! He’s got an attitude so now I’m going to cry on the web about how much of a fake tough guy he is!
The fact is that all of you complaining are some sad, bitter, pathetic people… Probably fat as well.

  13. onlyavoice - Jan 11, 2014 at 9:08 AM

Sure he’s angry, he’s realized that without Wesrbrook OKC is led by The Melo Clone (Durant).
Losing is inevitable as they watch Durant play 1 on 5, chucking shot after shot.
No playoff run with The Melo Clone leading the way.
Some people can’t take the truth & some are completely in denial (OKC/Durant fans)
So Perk is mad because someone speaks the truth.
    Durant for MVP,LMAO.
