Hawks’ coach hits referee with clipboard (VIDEO)

Jan 7, 2014, 3:14 PM EDT

Mike Budenholzer is in his first year as an NBA head coach, he’s still trying to get on the good sides of NBA officials. This isn’t going to help.

One of his assistants was clearly frustrated Monday night (rightfully so, the Hawks played poorly in a loss to the Nets) and tried to flip a clipboard to Budenholzer and did it pretty aggressively.

It flew and hit the nearby referee at the start of the timeout. Which left Budenholzer as the guy apologizing for the mishap. I’m sure Gregg Popovich taught him some tricks of the trade there… actually, Popovich never apologizes to referees — they apologize to him. He is “The Most Interesting Coach in the World.”

    Oooooh, you’re gonna get it!

Seriously, nothing to see here. It was just an accident. I thought the title here implied he purposefully went after the ref.

You know what, it’s been a week into the new year and we got no story of David Stern stepping down and Smithers, uh, AdamSilver taking the reigns?

I was gonna shout for Stern to come down with an unruly punishment but then I realized that he’s not the one to call upon anymore!

Accident? Maybe, but so was Coach Kidd’s spilled drink.

Budenholzer gets a 2-game suspension, and a DVD of “Reservoir Dogs”. Those who know the film will get the reference. Those who don’t can remain wandering around in ignorance.

Lucky that wasn’t Joey Crawford. Would’ve been 50k and 30 game suspension, and anger management classes
