Report: Thunder become third team in Grizzlies/Celtics swap of Bayless/Lee

We told you Sunday that it looked like the Boston Celtics and Memphis Grizzlies were close to swapping Jerryd Bayless and Courtney Lee.

Why do it? Because the Celtics would save money in future years and while they get another ball handling guard (which they could use while Rajon Rondo remains out) they really don’t get better (#tankapalooza2014). For Memphis, they get a guy shooting 44 percent from three this season on a team that desperately needs shooting (especially with Quincy Pondexter lost for the season).

But now the Thunder have horned in on the deal, reports Marc Stein of ESPN.

This gives the Celtics a little more money savings, basically all three teams win. For that reason expect this to go through in the next day or so (to waive Ryan Gomes the trade needs to happen by Tuesday).

I remember. When Gomes was a promising young prospect for the Celtsics…too bad he’s just going to be waived, would have liked to see him play in green again

Why did OKC even sign Ryan Gomes in the first place. Dead weight.

Presti plays chess while most other GMs play checkers. OKC is (almost) $1m under the luxury tax line. Gomes (almost) $900k salary becomes guaranteed soon. He’s obviously not in the rotation, so “give” him away and you get farther under. If he’s traded, his entire salary comes off the books for the year, not just the pro-rated portion, so it’s another couple hundred thousand more wiggle room that wasn’t there before. The Thunder still have a trade exception from the KMart trade, so that’s another $7m they could use to match salaries if they can find a taker for Perkins’ corpse. Just opening up options as the trade deadline gets closer.

Presti RUINED championship rings for the whole team in several ways (bad trades) (wasting 1st rd pics). HE SUCKS HARD AT CHESS!

I guess this is the year of trade attempts or rumors that would result in a player going to his original team, only to be waived.

Frankly I’m kindof impressed that Gomes has had as much of a career as he has. Go PC!
