Report: Cavaliers looking at Monday to pick Andrew Bynum trade partner

Deadlines move people in the NBA.

To clear the second half of Andrew Bynum’s $12.2 million off their books before the deal becomes guaranteed, a team has to waive Bynum by Jan. 7, next Tuesday.

So Monday the Cavaliers are going to trade him. That’s the plan reports Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.

The most discussed Bynum trade, that for Pau Gasol of the Los Angeles Lakers, appears dead based on the second half of that tweet — the Lakers as an organization are not disposed to make a salary dump and tank for the playoffs, they would want some future potential building blocks in the deal along with the cash savings. Cleveland isn’t giving up assets.

That trade also shows you what the Cavaliers hope to find in a deal — a quality player like Gasol who can help you make a playoff push.

In theory the Cavaliers could hold on to Bynum and pay him $6.2 million to be a trade chip at the draft (teams could get him and waive the full $12.5 million off next year’s books), but I wouldn’t bet on that scenario.

The deal with the LAKERS will happen. The Cavs can not do any better than Pau. I am a Pau fan but it is time for both sides to move on. The LAKERS are going to be in the lottery and shock the NBA world when they end up with a top 3 pick. Next year: Kobe, Melo and a top 3 pick. 2015 enter Kevin Love. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

every Lakers post there you are with some stuff that wouldnt even make sense on 2k14. Please stop. The Lakers are shocking nobody.

I’ll give them this. Even when Lakers fans are delusional, they are grand illusions

Melo isn’t going anywhere this offseason and yea maybe love in 2015 but who are you going to pair him up with?

  3. ohioteamsusuallysuck - Jan 3, 2014 at 7:14 PM

I thought lakers first rounder was going to Phoenix or someone?

I’m a cavs fan and I liked the Bynum signing but he obviously doesn’t have the love of the game. If they can get anything for him it’s a win

You fellas should have known that reuniting Mike Brown and Andrew Bynum would blow up in their faces.

Cavs are late on this one, they already missed Christmas

  7. arlingtonsynn - Jan 3, 2014 at 10:51 PM

I would say for the Cavs to throw in a ham sandwich in the deal, but I can clearly see Andrew would eat the sandwich.

Why would any team trade for Bynum. The guy has stole from two straight teams. At some point arnt gms like..” Nope”.

    • badge3832 - Jan 6, 2014 at 6:38 PM

Nobody is trading for Bynum. The trade would be for his salary. He will be released.

Gasol trade is not happening, he won’t resign with them.
Cavs will trade for ANOTHER washed up player (nothings changed since Lebrons days)
No one Good/Great wants to play in Cleveland, none wants to play for Lemonade Dan He isn’t about building a contender, he’s about selling seats on hype to lemonade making fans, he has them in his pockets.
Give the ball to Irving (ball hog no defense) & let him keep shooting, it makes him look good & gives that false hope to Cavs fans.
Bynum will still be cut & sign with the Clips.
Cavs stink as long as Lemonade Dan is the owner.

I think one of the reasons he has lost his passion for the game is because his family have been riding his back since before he was drafted and now he’s burned from supporting everyone.

odd coincidence. I’m looking at Monday to win the Mega-Millions
