Clippers Matt Barnes fined $25,000, not for foul to Love but for not leaving court

Dec 23, 2013, 6:05 PM EDT

We mentioned this when we brought you this ejection the first time — the foul didn’t seem that bad but if you’re ejected you can’t hang around and argue with the referees. The league frowns on this. And by “frowns” I mean “hates.”

The Clippers’ Matt Barnes was fined $25,000 for the incident above from Sunday night’s Los Angeles win over Minnesota. Barnes’ foul on Kevin Love was downgraded to a Flagrant 1 by the league — as it should have been. It was not that severe, there was a play on the ball. However, Barnes got the fine for “failing to leave the court in a timely manner upon his ejection.”

On the bright side for Barnes, at least he didn’t add to the fine with a twitter rant this time. Still, that’s $50,000 in checks to the league this year. That hurts.

Fake tough guy alert. The jv team in LA won’t get far if this clown is their toughest player. 3 years in, Blake and DJ still get punked like rookies. Can’t teach toughness Doc.

So he shouldn’t’ve been ejected, and he’s fined for not facilitating a more timely ejection. I wonder what recourse there’d be if he had left in a timely manner–I mean, other than an admission that he shouldn’t’ve been ejected. Nice job, NBA.

He deserved it. His reaction to it showed even more why he did, hes a sleez ball.

On a side note the K Love b!tch slap elbow to griffin was great stuff.

Can we also fine him for being a deuche-turd-bro-tool-punk?

Did you see it ” he got ball”

AS “CHICK” use to say no harm no foul. Terrible call, foul yes, but not a flagrant 2. Love needs to play for a winner.

The league should fine those refs $1,000,000 and suspend them the rest of the season. Absolute garbage

So after CA taxes and fines throughout the season, on a vet min. salary, how much does he actually take home? McDonald’s Store Manager-esque salary, or something to that extent?

  8. hannsta - Dec 24, 2013 at 12:04 AM

They should have the option of paying the fine to the league or donating the same amount to a random fan in the stadium.
